Default Oh no! It's that white GSD that attacked Kira!

A little morning drama for your morning coffee.

Took the usual stroll along the beach this morning with Kira. She was off leash, and I was working on her recall.

Through the bushes, I see a huge white GSD. I'm like " Oh crap" ! It's him again.
And he was off leash .... Again.
I see a woman walking her dog, and I ask if she would go ask the owner of that dog to leash him. She already knew why, because she "heard" about the incident. ( darn dog people are such yappers)

Anyway, it turns out that it wasn't the same dog, but a stable, balanced 5 yr old HUGE white GSD (140lbs). He approached Me and Kira, and while Kira was hiding behind me, I took the time to pet and praise the white GSD. Kira comes running out from behind me, and starts jumping all around the dog to play. The brat was jealous.
I felt it was a good step in the right direction. I let her be.
The owner happen to live near me, and agreed to meet at the park for some one on one with his dog. His dog was very passive with Kira, and since it's a white GSD ( same as the one that attacked her), I feel it's a golden opportunity for her regain some of her confidence with larger white dogs.

Then, the OTHER white GSD pulled up with his owner, and wanted a piece of Kira. That dog has it in for her. His hackles went up, and he was cleary agitated.
Those two are gonna duke it out one day.
I just left, while things were positive.

Thanks for sharing. I am so glad that Kira got a positive experience with a large dog, especially one that is so similar to the one that attacked her. Great job!!

Thanks.

I feel like a dog psychiatrist.

But I know, in the long run, my diligence will pay off.

you are agreat dog dad and your Kira sounds like she is doing very well. By the way Im not Kira's size but a loose 140lb GSD can be alittle intimidating. When Lucky was maybe 11 months old he was in a class w/ a great dane who towered over him. Lucky at first was intimidated and then did puppy stuff. Daisy as a 10 month old was intimidated by a Great Pryrees,go figure. I think it was because the dogs was just so much bigger then what they were used to.Daisy was always one of the biggest in her class, Kira may have a new play buddy that's great.

He was BIG! But so gentle with Kira. Kira started licking his face. And if I'm not mistaken, in dog language, that's showing respect for the older dog.

I have plans to meet tomorrow morning. We're just going for simple leashed walk around the park grounds.

I have a question for those following this thread:

What would should I do, if I get a casual encounter with the "bad WGSD"? I could be walking in that park at any time, and the owner appears to always have him off leash. What should I do if that dog attacks Kira again?

Be honest.

Did you try talking to the owner when it happened the first time? What was the owner's reaction? They're obviously not taking it very seriously if their dog is still off leash.

Yes. His attitude is "They're just dogs, she'll get over it". I wanted to crack him, but decided to be the better man. He obviously doesn't care what his dog does to my dog.
I saw him this morning, and he didn't even as much as ask how she was doing since the attack.

bring pepper spray out with you, or just flat out kick the attacking dog hard. you wouldn't want to accidently pepper spray kira
