My breeder started out with 7 puppies in this litter and through no fault of his own or the momma, now he only has one. It's a
story so I'm not going to repeat it, but it wasn't due to illness. Since I was the first person on the waiting list, the option to take the puppy is mine. He also has another litter that is about 10 days older and he said I could get one of those if I want. I really want a male puppy from this particular pair, but I am wondering what he will miss out on by not getting time with other puppies. I'm sure he will be socialized some with the other litter, but right now the mothers have to be kept separated. I plan to take my puppy around other dogs and have one at home, but is there anything else I should do if I get him? I really don't want to wait another year for my puppy.

Has the breeder combined the litter so each dam has about 1/2 puppies? That would be optimal. Not socialized, but raised as part of the litter.

I agree the best thing would probably be to put the singleton with the other litter. How old were the puppies when they passed? Super sad

The puppies were only a day or two old. As far as I know, he hasn't combined litters. I think he was too shocked when he called me. Assuming he doesn't (and if he does, it's not an issue) what could I do to overcome the situation?

You might want to PM selzer. She raised a singleton. I'm not sure of about any other breeders on the site that have...I'm sure there are more, but that is the only one I am positive about.
