Ok, wondered how all has done this mainly with out dogs out in public? Do you do? Have found this the hardest to do.
My guys see another dog & show intetest, but in the past I kept them away. So now with new pup, trying to let her go up to see dogs in public. Not going as I would like. We don't see many when we do go out, but few we have seen or went up to have been fine. A couple, not... Both dogs last night started rt at each other, pup & 9 yr old pitt. He was a nice dog, but not sure what was up, my gal not greeting rt? She did not pull, but went to sniff noses & all I know, grumbles & getting at each other. After things calmed, tried to let her go sniff, seen his upper lip up & got her back, put in a down a foot away as I talked & kept dropping treats for her. She has been in a class setting with dogs since 10 wks & no prob at classes. I take her everywhere. Just would like to do rt here & have really not give a care about dogs out in public. How should I go about & what am I doing wrong? Thanks

You need to make sure all the meetings are 100% good. So from far away if the people look friendly, dog looks friendly, then I kind of yell 'are your dog(s) friendly and can they meet my puppy?'.
If I get ANYTHING but an immediate 'yes, sure' then I pass. If they have to think about it, they are mentally thinking well 'MOST of the time and I won't mention that ONE time and.....' This is really when it helps to have a PUPPY dog class. Controlled setting. And also a great time to 'use' your friends that have happy healthy dogs..... I'm lucky cause of all my agility friends (DOG CLASSES) and from agility trials (started with DOG CLASSES) so I have a vast number of knowledgeable people/pups to use for this.

Thanks for videos.
I have only been to one trial with her since I have had her. She did good. Just bad, because you just don't know when out in public, but don't want it to to be neg. Just not sure if I should allow meetings then. Hate to make neg to her. Being a pup, they want to be all wiggly & approach rt at faces. Some dogs don't care for this. Then I find if I control lead to settle her, then sending a vibe & sort of making her defensive.

Most important thing is to make sure the meetings are positive. USE YOUR FRIENDS! I specifically call them up to make playdates when I first get a puppy.
Here's my friend with her yellow Lab, I went to her house SPECIFICALLY for Glory to meet Quinn and the humans. I have found agility people are the best. They are all doing EXACTLY the same thing when they get a puppy. I make time at the trial specifically to just walk around with my puppy at each and every trial. When they are older I make time to have them use the practice jump too! Here's another one of Glory at a trial (extra credit with Bretta in this one too) and I have total strangers walking Glory!

As others said with a young pup it is important to keep all experiences positive when meeting other dogs.
If you can try to stick to dogs you know or dogs in situations where you know how they will react to your puppy. |

i haven't found anything hard to do when
it comes to training and socializing. it's consistent but that's not hard. i got my pup at 9 weeks old. he was in a puppy class at 10 weeks old. people from the class got together throughout the week for play dates. my dog played with other dogs at least 3 days a week plus puppy class once a week. get your dog out a lot and train and socialize around other dogs and other types of animals (as much as possible). also have a lot of people visit your home so your dog learns to meet and greet. you can do this outside your home also. train and socialize a lot and everyday.

Well, mean not hard, but making it positive instead of neg if she decides to grumble at a passing dog? Or, dog not to be trusted & you have to keep away, would think she gonna pick up on that neg vibe??? I have her around diff breeds, surely not everyday. Main dogs she has really interacted with has been GSDs.
