"The organisations attributed the change to Yulin's new Communist Party secretary, Mo Gongming, who reportedly wants to improve Yulin's national and international image. Penalties include a fine of up to $US14,500 and jail time, the organisations said. (Kaiman 2017)"

As far as I know the ban of the Yulin Mass Dog Slaughter and Torture Day (that's right I refuse to refer to it as a festival) isn't 100% official or cancelled. Several sources point towards it being cancelled.

If it is cancelled this is one huge victory for us. If it were up to me, everyone involved in the toruring of dogs would be subject to being tortured the way the dogs are in Yulin, legally. I would pay to watch it.

I hate the idea of eating dog but it is a different culture, different ideas. What I would like to see even more is that ANY creature that provides us with food have a good, although short, life. These creatures should be treated well.

From what I have read of the Yulin event, yes, there is no good reason for it. I will be glad to see it end.

There is absolutely no chance this is cancelled. NO officials will comment and NO vendors (torturers) were aware.

This was falsely implied by Peter Li - Head of the Chinese branch of HSI. False news, false hopes. HUGE $$$ have been generated as a result of taking props along with Duo Duo project...Both claim the were integral part of this "success"

Apparently it is only a 2 day ban prior to start of solstice. ABSOLUTELY NO official will comment on.

Every yr. news leaks that there is positive change to this. Like no slaughter allowed in streets. So this gets done in the back.
The animals are still stolen, tortured (beaten, boiled and skinned alive).

This is their livelihood. The gov hasn't provided for this.
They are laughing at activists through social media.

Mo Gongming...It cannot even be confirmed that he is in office yet

From Karen Gifford ,
Let's not forget last year friends. HSI wasn't exactly on the up and up then, nor are they now...posting about a ban that no one can actually confirm. It's all for publicity because every time an org as big as them says something of great magnitude like Yulin Ban on Dog Selling the associated press goes wild and articles start popping up like popcorn, generating another round of donations for HSI for their heroic victory. PR specialists know exciting headlines and misleading claims generate attention, and that it will take a few days, maybe a week, before people read between the lines and come to different conclusions. Perhaps those "closed doors" Peter Li was referring to where the supposed ban originated were more likely the closed doors of Peter Li and the top overpaid executives at HSUS/HSI.
Yesterday I made some comments and asked some very legitimate questions on Peter Li's post using the TA Foundation as his backup that there is indeed a ban. Only problem was it was a 2 day ban, and Peter Li in his hurry to get it out there failed to see the typo. Monique van Boxtel saw it though and called him out. Incidentally Monique got de-friended yesterday for obvious reasons. I am now de/friended as well, not sure exactly which nerve I hit.

With Yulin around the corner I can't trust what HSI says because last year when Marc Ching was trying to get rescues to help with the dogs he acquired it wasn't until HSI got battered on social media before they reluctantly agreed to take 120 dogs. Why would HSI not be excited to help Marc Ching? Maybe it's because AHWF did not sign on as a HSI "Partner" because that would mean HSI takes all the press credit and can use that to get donations. Fast forward to when it came time for HSI to pick up those 120 dogs waiting in cages, Marc was frantic, I was privy to personal texts from him saying HSI sent a message that unless Marc posted on his page on HSI's behalf, giving them the press, that they would not get the dogs. They were basically levering the dog's lives for press / donations. After a 4 hour wait, and it was a long 4 hours for the dogs and for Marc, worried sick that they would die, they finally came. There is more to that story but the point I am trying to make is this:

Unanswered questions and de-friending people who are simply wanting accountability and clear explanations, then de-friending and blocking does not look good. Hence my post this Sat eve.
James Tsai posted several memes last year around Yulin after his extensive research on HSI. You can search his posts on FB if you care to see the real truth about HSI lurking in closet. Thanks for reading my vent. If Monique has screen shots of my comments and questions that precipitated me being blocked I'll share.

(Note: Karen Gifford works with Marc Ching of AHWF - she was witness to the texts of Peter LI who drove several dogs without food or water in scorching sun, citing they were going to die anyways)

^^^
As China’s annual dog meat festival draws upon us, so does the trickery from Yulin’s government. Dog butchers, dog traders and dog vendors don’t care what you or I think; they just want to be paid. In 2017 the sale of dog meat is only being suspended for a few days. Some key fundamental things need to be remembered before celebrations break out:
a) dog butchers have not been prohibited from slaughtering dogs
b) the public sale of dog meat is only suspended for a few days.
c) the ingredient of dog meat has not been replaced by another ingredient for the festival.
d) Yulin festival is to celebrate the 24 hour period of summer solstice (in the northern hemisphere.)
e) no offer of alternative employment has been announced for Yulin dog butchers.
Yulin’s annual dog meat and lychee festival will take place this year on Wednesday, 21 June. It was first held in 2009, and there’s been a number of ‘bans’ which previously came to nothing. The 2017 so-called ban is to defuse international media interest and the glare of animal activists, in the hope all will stay home in their own countries.

I don't have a problem with people eating dog meat either. But I find it abhorrent how they treat the animals. I believe any slaughter should be done appropriately. I do not like to see the dogs shoved into cages like stuffed animals in a toy box. I do not like to see animals cruelly killed.
