Default Important Change in legislation

As of Agust 9 2014 all puppies from Canada entering the US must have had rabies immunization. First injection at 12 weeks and second injection at 16 weeks.

This has huge implications for the health of the puppies and for all Canadian breeders.

CKC (canadian kennel club) and the AKC are trying to over turn this law.

Please write your organization and support their effort to right this wrong.

What the . . . ? Has there been a spate of rabies-infected puppies biting people that legislators felt that this was a necessary change?

That makes no sense! No one boosts the rabies vaccine that soon. It's against manufacturers recommendations!

My dog Batman came from Lebanon and his paperwork indicates that he had 3 rabies shots before he got here. I postponed getting his here until a couple weeks ago and I have had him since October of last year. The date on his health certificate was July, I went with that date. It must be the out of country thing?

cross referenced in the Vaccination file in case someone may not read this thread "NEW one -- this affects the ability to have pups cross the border .

RABIES vaccination required "As of Agust 9 2014 all puppies from Canada entering the US must have had rabies immunization. First injection at 12 weeks and second injection at 16 weeks." (from this thread Important Change in legislation)

Center Disease Control Issuance and Enforcement Guidance for Dog Confinement Agreements- subsection title - section title - site title

quote "Puppies must not be vaccinated against rabies before 3 months of age, so the youngest that a puppy can be imported into the United States is 4 months of age."
from this site:
Dogs | Bringing an Animal into U.S. | Animal Importation | CDC

it's not going to be puppy dogs bringing or taking rabies - it's going to be the wildlife -- raccoons especially

I think this is another breeder-hostile control -- a new one to add to what riles Anne the Vandal --- AR's and PETA types

I have let the publisher/editor of Dogs Naturally know about this .
A vigorous response is needed.

Where does it stop?

I saw this on Facebook a couple of weeks ago. I am just glad that my puppy got here in June at 10 weeks! I would have hated to have to wait til 4 months until he could come over!

this probably goes both ways , affecting the ability of dogs to come into Canada without these rabies vaccines --
