That's really surprising this church would allow a dog in it. I had one heck of a time finding a church that would allow my dog to be a ringbearer, most citing that canon law forbids animals to enter.

As nice as this story is, I think I'd feel bad if any of my animals grieved like that.

Also, that dog is only 7?

I work for the Catholic Church in Religious Ed and there is no Canon Law aga8inst dogs in Church. Sometimes Churches will say something is
Canon Law rather then just say they do now allow.

Canon 1983 excludes from churches things that do not advance "worship, piety, or religion"; Canon 1220 states that "whatever is inappropriate to the holiness of the place is excluded";

This does not exclude dogs who are such a wonderful creation of God. Lately in our church it should apply to cell phones which people forget to turn off

I remeber as a kid the head Priest at my Church had 2 Airedales that routinely were with him everywhere he went, they were even buried on the grounds near the dorms where the Priests lived with a statue of Saint Francis. I loved those dogs and loved to play with them.

Since 1983 the Western Church's use the revised Code of Code of Canon Law (CIC) in 1983. Containing 1752 canons, it is the law currently binding on the Latin (western) Roman Church.

It always seems silly to me that God gave 10 commandments and we have 1000's of laws in the Church and government to enforce those 10! Jesus was born in a manger with animals and I doubt he cares about a dog in the church! It is the spirit not the letter of the law that counts!

Our parish has the sweet elderly widow who bring her little dog everywhere including the church where she blesses him with holy water!
