Default 120 dogs in a U-Haul

Authorities find 120 dogs in U-Haul in Fayette County The Commercial Appeal

Quote:
A traffic stop by the West Tennessee Drug Task Force on Interstate 40 in Fayette County this morning resulted in the discovery of more than 120 dogs packed in crates in the back of a U-Haul truck and a van being towed by the truck.

There was also one cat.

Officials at the scene said the dogs were packed four and five to a crate in some cases. Some of the containers were nothing more than dog houses with the fronts either closed off with plastic ties or turned with the opening pushed against the wall of the truck so the animals couldn’t escape.

That's so sad

What were they going to do with all those dogs??? Awful, just awful. People are just sick.

The poor cat too. How terrifying for it!

Wonder if the dogs had been stolen? I cannot imagine why any person would do harm to any living and breathing thing. To cram them all together like that, no food or water, or even room to stretch out is just mindless.

I hope that the dogs are all ok, and the ones that are possibly stolen make it back home. May they all find a forever and loving home to be in and also the kitty.

Possibly a hoarder moving to a new location.

Sounds like something I heard on NPR's The Story. How Many is Too Many? — The Story from APM

I read about this on someones FB wall(a well known & respected rescue/transport coordinator)
Chip- ins provide profits to these dog flippers.
It is always smart to know exactly where donations are going when it comes to rescue...and where 'free' CL dogs end up.
I wonder where they were actually taking these dogs? Hopefully not to a research facility.

Follow-up story.

Long Beach women in animal cruelty case set for Tennessee hearing - latimes.com

Quote:
Two Long Beach dog rescuers who were charged with felony animal cruelty after they were found with 140 dogs crammed into a U-Haul truck and minivan in Tennessee are scheduled for a preliminary hearing Tuesday.

Bonnie Sheehan, 55, and Pamela A. King-McCracken, 59, were arrested last week after they were stopped by a state trooper on a highway east of east of Memphis, authorities said.

For years, the women operated Hearts for Hounds, a well-known and well-regarded dog boarding facility in Long Beach, city officials said. They were headed for Virginia to hold dog auctions.
