Barkworks, the known petstore that sold puppy mill/"commercially bred" puppies, has finally seen the light. The Barkworks in my local mall closed several months ago, at least.
I just saw a segment on the news that the owners of the company and general managers are making the switch to only displaying and adopting out puppies/dogs from their local shelters. All of the puppies shown were at high risk of euthanasia. I ponder things like mandatory s/n, etc., but I think this is an amazing change of heart and direction. I think this is amazing. I watched the segment on the news and I felt so happy. Petstores are a big deal when it comes to poorly bred dogs lining the pockets of BYBs. We here all know how evil puppy mills are. I love how the word has gotten out about them, enough to run this place to the ground and make them do something this drastic to change. Discuss! |

Our town would not support the only store that sold puppies. Out of about 10 shops that was the only one who made profits off designer pups. It closed a couple years ago.
All the others support rescue, & hold adoption events. It is up to the JQP to decide where their $ goes. And education is key in that. One store down....hundreds to go!! Thank you for sharing. I would still be a watchdog to make sure Barkworks is helping shelter dogs and not playing that up somehow. I hope they are legitimately working to place animals safely in their forever homes and not doing it for a hidden profit. Last edited by onyx'girl; 01-12-2012 at 09:37 PM. |
