TAYLOR - Borough police had to stun an Old Forge man four times and release a K-9 officer twice as the man ran through traffic on South Keyser Avenue after being pulled over for suspicion of driving under the influence early Tuesday, according to a criminal complaint.
Police said Joseph Baron-ski, 32, 612 Dunn Ave., nearly drove head-on into a police cruiser on South Keyser Avenue at about 1:20 a.m. before Officer Kevin Froese began pursuit. Mr. Baronski again veered over the road's center line and forced three other vehicles to swerve around his Jeep Cherokee, according to the complaint. When Mr. Baronski pulled his vehicle into the parking lot at Turkey Hill at Oak Street and South Keyser Avenue, he jumped out of the car and began to run when Officer Froese sent his K-9 partner, Bruin, after him, according to the complaint. Bruin had Mr. Baronski caught in his jaws until the Old Forge man's repeated punches to the dog's head, face and back forced Bruin to release the hold before Officer Froese caught up and ordered Bruin to resume, according to the complaint. Police Chief Leonard J. Mickavicz Jr. said Bruin was not injured. Mr. Baronski again beat the dog until Bruin let go and the man began to run from Officer Froese back and forth through traffic on South Keyser Avenue. Police said they chased Mr. Baronski around one nearby home, where he climbed up a porch railing onto the roof, continuing his flight even after offers stunned him four times. He was captured in another backyard, where he allegedly tried to punch another officer. Mr. Baronski was arraigned Tuesday morning on charges of aggravated assault, taunting a police animal, resisting arrest, recklessly endangering another person and driving under the influence among related charges and remanded to the Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $35,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is Oct. 6 at 9:15 a.m. Contact the writer: domalley@timesshamrock.com Read more: Old Forge man ran from cops, bit by K9 twice, stunned four times after DUI stop - News - The Times-Tribune

Wow. Seems excessive to get out of a DUI.
