Oh yeah, thats really thinking of the dog then.

At least with them being turned into a rescue with people that can take care of them, they don't run the risk of being forgotten and left to themselves in a back yard somewhere. That would be throwing their life out like rubbish.
Padfoot is ten. How much work is it to care for a ten year old dog? He doesn't have to go running with it every morning.

The other dog is thirteen. I really do not care if you think I am an ogre or not, but I would put my 13 year old dog down before dumping it at a pound or in a rescue at that age.

The biggest thing that bothers me about this is that that dog probably made the guy millions. I'm sure said guy is out enjoying THE DOGS money, and then ditches the dog. It's not like this individual couldn't afford to make sure this animal was cared for and comfortable for the rest of his life, set aside a portion to be only for the dog, ya know?
That just kinda stinks in my book.
Not to mention I do believe that is the most beautiful black coatie I've ever laid eyes on, I don't care "who" he is

I doubt it... The dog had a small role in a movie where they mostly used CGI for the character he was playing. Even though it is a popular movie I doubt the dog made a lot of money.

The owner is not to be applauded, he is just like every other owner who wakes up one day and realizes that he no longer wants to bother with the dogs. He has managed his dogs for ten and thirteen years. He did not just realize -- oh wow, they need to be cared for, I can take this job that rules out owning dogs. Ok. Well, the dogs have to go then. See ya! Some one else will take care of you during your declining years, because I no longer have time for you.

If a breeder took their older bitches and handed them off to a rescue, how would this be any different. I have no problem with breeders who breed a bitch a couple of times and then find a nice pet home for her -- that's different. But dumping them into a rescue? And because this yayhoo has a dog that was in the movies, he is somehow a good guy for dumping his old dogs.

I totally agree with this. There is no excuse for dumping dogs when you have the means to take care of them. It's about commitment and commitments often equal sacrifice. Sometimes you don't get to do everything you want to do because of decisions you made previously; it's something one takes into account before taking on the responsibility of caring for another life or bringing another life into their family be it animal, child, or SO.
