Default San Juan group tries to rescue dog for second time

San Juan group tries to rescue dog for second time | triton, ark, juan - News - The Orange County Register

Quote:
After learning that one of the dogs it adopted out had ended up with an animal rescue group in Massachusetts, The Ark of San Juan is raising money to try to bring him back to San Juan Capistrano for another chance at a new home.

San Juan rescue "The Ark" adopted Triton out to a family. After the family relocated to Massachusetts, they brought the dog to a veterinarian and asked that he be put to sleep, saying that he killed the family cat. The vet refused because the dog was healthy and the dog was turned over to a Massachusetts rescue, "Great Dog Rescue New England". He is currently at a boarding facility being boarded free of charge until a home can be found for him.

"The Ark" wants to spend $2,000 to bring the dog back to San Juan so they can find him a new home, instead of leaving him in Massachusetts and trusting "Great Dog Rescue" to find him a new home.

I think this whole situation is stupid. Why add all this stress for the poor dog by having him taken from Massachusetts back to San Juan, place him in another foster home or boarding facility and then adopt him out there again? Why not just leave him with the rescue that has him now and trust they will find him a home?

I think "The Ark" could spend the money they are raising much better to help other animals that are local and let the rescue in Massachusetts, which is more than willing to keep the dog and find him a home, do that.

I just don't get it. I really don't. If they truly wanted what is best for the dog, they'd leave well enough alone. What could it possibly accomplish shipping the dog back?

Or they could send the money to the rescue that has him to get him a couple of months of free food and toys...just saying.

I emailed "The Ark" and suggested they leave well enough alone and not move poor Triton all across the country (again) to find him a new home, especially since he is currently in rescue and safe. Here's what they said,

Quote:
"The rescue in New England has limited resources and advised they may not be able to continue to care for him. We agree that it would be best for Triton to find a forever home close to where he currently is without the stress of travel. However, it is our understanding he will only have limited time with this rescue. Therefore, should he need us, The Ark wants to be prepared to respond to Triton and get him back to us. Our goal is to have a dedicated fund ready for him when or if the time comes."
It's been pretty much my experience that ALL rescues have limited resources. I also think the Massachusetts rescue has the same ability to fundraise for Triton and that a solution other than shipping him across the country can be found.

I suggested to "The Ark" that they could donate some of the money they raised for Triton to the Massachusetts rescue to save him the stress of getting shipped around the country.
