Default Terre Haute, IN. Officer and GSD K-9 shot

Unfortunately, Officer Brent Long didn't make it but his K-9 partner has been released from Purdue University vet hospital and is to be retired to live out his life peacefully with the officers family. I didn't post originally because I get so frustrated with this forums attitude towards police and the job that has to be done, but wanted to share that it appears that at least the pup survived. So sad that he couldn't save his partner though. Neither of them stood a chance. The guy was waiting for them when they came in.

FYI, the dog is wearing the muzzle not due to displaced aggression, but to help his wound heal by keeping his jaw secure.

The article I linked actually says it's a Malinois but he looked like a GSD in the news clips I've seen. Sorry about that. Another video for those interested

I have followed this story. We have had too many officer shootings in and around Indy lately. I used to work for the county and worked close with law enforcement. I hate these types of stories. It makes me sad.

It is sad the young man didn't make it.

It is just as well the perpetrator is dead.

Glad the dog, who does look like a GSD, and not a malinois, if they are using a current photo of the officer/dog team, made it. It is also nice that they are retiring the dog to the family of the officer.

I live not too far from here and work for a PD. This is pretty jarring for everyone involved in LE given how routine serving warrants is. It's an unpleasant reminder of just how dangerous that task is.

There is no such thing as a "routine warrant service".

All give some; some give all. May he rest in peace. My prayers are with his family and friends.
