I know, it is a Malinois, but Nala was still pretty exceptional. Too bad the idiot ran over her foot. I mean, did he really think he was going to get away???
But then, maybe if he had a couple of brain cells to rub together, he would not have to be a criminal. Police dog suffers injury while apprehending suspect Local News The Star Beacon; Ashtabula, Ohio Dorset township is around the corner from me in Denmark, my brother lives there and I can walk to his house, but this area is about 8 miles away. Still, it is pretty close to home.

Great story, but I'm a little confused. At the end of the story it stated the total value of the vet bill to treat Nala. It then asked for donations to the department's K-9 fund. Shouldn't they fine the criminal for the value of the vet bill? Restitution for the crime?

By then the vet will die of starvation.
It is just not the way it works here. Our people here are poor. The judge can fine them, but if they cannot pay, they cannot pay. Then its off to jail for them. Down the line, they may have to pay a fine or restitution for what they stole and injuries done. At that point, the money will go in the general fund. There are still people out there that will pull out their depleted purse strings for a dog around here. Our K-9s are mostly run on donations. Yes, the grocery store does donate food, or did a couple of years ago. And the vet donates much of his services. But the vet is probably hurting too in this current economy. I figure I am not the only one cutting down on veterinary expenses or running a balance.
