Some of the comments on that article are pretty interesting. Specifically, how one justifies games with graphic human - human violence like Call of Duty while rejecting games with dog - dog violence? One might claim that Call of Duty or Grand Theft Auto hasn't increased America's crime rate- so should we be upset over games such as Dog Wars? (Such claims may be hard to prove!) I think yes, but only on grounds that I am morally against dog fighting.

Maybe it could be claimed that games about war depict humans that have made a choice to be part of the war (soldiers) and justify violence as simply part of war; I could buy that. So putting aside games of war, we still have general games of violence like Grand Theft Auto. In this game, you can pretty much do whatever you want to whoever you want. That is, one could apply violence to a depicted human who had no part in your scheme.

I think the main complaint from animal rights activists is that dog - dog violence is invoked on animals who are not given a choice (and obviously would never choose violence) to withdraw from fighting. I guess my question is: How is this different from games like Grand Theft Auto where violence can be applied to "innocent" people?

(To be clear- I am 100% against dog fighting, and I am upset about this game. But I am upset based on my belief that dog fighting is morally wrong. My morals have nothing to do with freedom of speech and the ability for people to put out such trashy games.
-Can I be upset about it? Sure.
-Do I have a right to be upset about it? I am not so sure...)
