I don't know what breed the dog was. I feel it wasn't excessive force. However I believe law enforcement is in the wrong for denying the crook is insulin. I think the crook should be charged for assault and battery on a police officer for attacking the dog.

I wasn't there.
If the guy had a diabetic siezure, one would think there would be a report somewhere. I guess if people follow instructions maybe the dog would not have to be sent in, but have you ever tried to listen to what an officer says from the car behind you? I know that several officers probably think I am stupid on purpose, but often I truly do not hear what they are saying properly. BTW, I went the wrong way TWICE in trials at the IX center because I could not hear the judge. I should stick to Rally, but with all that noise in the background it is truly difficult to hear instructions. And with a helicopter, it may be a similar case. I had no trouble in the small show in Jefferson. If the guy did not commit a burglary and steal a purse and a wallet, maybe he would not have had to be arrested. My compassion level is pretty low tonight.

HOW would you bite a police dog that is doing a pretty good job of eating you? 40 staples. I would have to say that the dog won that confrontation.

Yeah, you would think so . And then when he went to the ER to get the bite treated (BEFORE they took him to jail), if he was that concerned about it, and they found his sugar to be dangerously high, they would have treated him.

Until I had a pancreas transplant in 2008, I had been a diabetic for 35 1/2 years (and a retired sheriff's sergeant)
For the most part, a seizure or seizure like symptoms are caused by LOW blood sugar (too much insulin). Diabetic coma is caused by high blood sugar and can take days, if not weeks, to become critical. Most larger jails have nurses on staff 24/7 and would have done some sort of intake screening on the inmate. Plus, as pointed out earlier, he was at ER to get staples and they would have noticed it as well. I had arrested/jailed diabetics that had blood glucose readings in the 400-500 (normal is 90-100) range and no one considered it an emergency. Most of the time, the jail would take the person because the best place for them was in custody where they could be more closely monitored. Plus, don't steal stuff and the cops won't follow you. Don't bite a police K9 and you won't need staples. There is no way I would want my face anywhere near a biting K9's mouth.

Once I drove my car back behind the car dealership, put my keys in the door of the establishment, and took the bike off the car, and started to ride it home. Yes it was 2 AM. I was in class until 10PM, then drove an hour home, had dinner, and then waited for the bars to close to drive up and make the exchange. It is usually better to bike out of town after the drunks are at home. Of course I got stopped and questioned for that. Another time, I was out collecting my brother and sister's bikes. They would leave them at stores or at school, and I would go and get them. So I was riding down the street carrying my sisters 20 inch, at about midnight -- yeah got stopped for that. Another time. I was checking out my new bike, switching the gears to find the sweet spot and riding in the closed grocery store parking lot. I was like 36. Yes it WAS after midnight. Some over-zealous 18 year old stopped me, did not know quite what to do or say, and finally said he liked to give kids a break -- huh??? I was old enough to be his MOTHER hello??? and I wasn't doing ANYTHING. Another time my sister and I were putting together bookcases at our book shop up town. And we were taking a break and looking at a book in the back room, laughing about it -- it was not the type of book we could possibly sell there without having the pastor of the baptist church in town picketing us. The cop creeped in and as I was leaving the room, I ran smack into him. He was 18, I think I was 17 and my sister 19 at the time. We were both in college then, and I had no respect for curfews. This guy never asked us who we even were. My sister and I locked up and went home, and then I went out riding my bike -- normal at that time for me to be out all night on my bike. He caught up to me again, and asked if that was my sister and if she was married. I asked him if he was. That is when he told me he was only 18. He also told me he might have come in with his gun drawn. I remember thinking my God, they let this auxilliary carry a gun. Another time I was out riding my bike in a city about 14 miles away from home, and the cops told me to get off the street. Huh? Is there some law that says you cannot ride a bike at night? A state boy told me that too, but I was walking my bike along a rural highway, going home -- had to walk 12 miles home, the bike was broke. Another time, I was 18 miles away, and the cops there called my dad. I offered my driver's license, I told him I was 18, but he had to call and wake up my dad. So he called the sherriff, the sherriff called my dad. He told them he did not know where I was but I was probably out with my bike. The sherriff then asked him how old I was and he told him and the sherriff appologised profusely for bothering him. It was about 4AM. No, I have never been arrested. But I have had many run-ins with the law. Now I was pretty much a nutter about bicycling, and drove my bike one night 100 miles into Dunkirk, NY. I was as crazy then about bicycles as I am now about dogs. And suggesting I not ride my bike at night would have been similar to suggesting I dump all my dogs in a shelter. Not happening. But yeah, I have had a lot of talks with police. And sometimes, especially when they talk through their car, it is hard to understand what they are saying. So it is hard to follow instructions that are garbled.

But if you have a GSD with you, you get far fewer run ins for just being female and out after dark.
