Putnam Co., FL Puppy Mill Raid

County Animal Services with follow up help from the Humane Society of Northeast FL stepped in and removed 76 dogs from filthy conditions in Hollister, FL yesterday.

I was told there were possibly 6-7 pregnant bitches picked up with 1 possibly 2 who looked like they could deliver at any time. One mom had just had pups within the hour before officers arrived on scene.

Re: Putnam Co., FL Puppy Mill Raid

Wow, people make me sad. I'm so glad these dogs are out of there now, and that the puppies that are going to be born won't be raised in those conditions.

Pups to move to Suwannee County

Seventy-three dogs seized from a Hollister property July 2 will be returned to a kennel in Suwannee County.

"Mr. (Jim) Kight has made arrangements with the former owner to take them back and he is working on getting them over there," Maj. Dwight Parker of the Putnam County Sheriff's Office said.

Kight, 63, is in the process of contacting foster homes and returning the dogs to Suwannee County where they were purchased, Parker said.

Putnam County also has one of the highest kill-rates re: its animal shelter in the whole state. Or at least it did a few years ago. Glad to see they didn't take the pups there!

Re: Putnam Co., FL Puppy Mill Raid

Putnam Co. had a very high kill rate until approx. 6/7 years ago when my oldest daughter pushed for rescue involvement. She set up a rescue system that sent out emails to well over 100 people several times a week, started a photo system to send pictures out, and coordinated rescue pulls each week. She is the one who got me involved in organized rescue.

The website that she & I started years ago is the one linked to through the Sheriff's Office website (the county shelter is under this Dept.), the Putnam County Commissioner's Site, and a small blurb daily in the local newspaper.
