Good post, Sue. I'm happy when I see PITA (which is how I'll spell this Pain In The Ass from now on) dress up in KKK costumes. Unfortunately some people do "think of them as people standing up for the poor animals" (as you said), but when PITA dresses up in KKK costumes they reveal their true natures.

Oh come on... if you don't like PETA that's okay but don't insult me, as a vegetarian, with your stupid thoughts. I don't eat meat, and I don't push my thoughts on anyone else. I don't say a word when my friends, family, coworkers, (or anyone eats meat), but everyone seems to have a smart comment like this for me.

Nothing make my temper flare more then when I am insulted, told that people just wish i would die, (or assumed to be a crazy terrorist) just because I do not want to eat animals.

And FYI - Plants do not have a central nervous system so they do NOT feel pain like animals (or humans).

Too bad they didn't go all the way and lynch themselves from the highest tree.

I could not agree more. However, PETA left the ball park a long time ago, so I wonder why they get any press. The best word for PETA, despicable.

While not a vegetarian, I somehow still find that acronym a bit offensive. And it actually draws more attention to them. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

I don't agree with everything PETA does, but I do applaud them for bringing out the truth about animal cruelty on factory farms and in the circus. They also bring attention to the sad fate of dogs that live their entire lives chained up in yards.

They're definitely not PC. And I certainly don't support their more fanatical ideals. But, they sure are good at getting attention.

My comment was geared towards the PETA people CindyM, NOT against vegetarian people as a whole.
And there have been studies where plants DO feel pain. They don't feel it to the extent we do, but they still feel it.
http://www.department13designs.com/vegan.html here's just one study.
Again it was not a slam against vegans just PITA PETA.

Maybe I over-reacted, but I just get poked at all the time for being vegetarian and sometimes it's really frustrating that's all!!

I do agree with what gslore stated.

Anyway, that department13designs link is not real. It is a joke (or whatever you want to call it)

My attitude is eat what you want, just keep your choices to yourself. I have known many folks who were vegetarian, and it was never a point of discussion other than general academic interest. The problem stems from trying to force the ideaology (sp?) on everyone else.

We all have our differences, whether it be music, religion, diet or our preference in pets (dig vs little dogs, dogs vs cats, etc) The beauty of life is to be happy with your choices and leave others to theirs, so long as their choices do not impinge on yours and vice versa.

Westminster and KKK, totally ignorant comparison.
PETA, people who need to get a life.
