I hope to show my girl UKC as she gets older. I am trying to put a finger on exactly what to call the hindend/topline fault on my pup. I know it is a croup issue.
Would you call it a short croup? A steep croup? A high set tail? It looks like a chunk was removed from her croup area. Also, will she grow out of it as she fills out as she didn't have it at 8 weeks..... If not, do you think it would ruin her show chances. Otherwise, she is a pretty correct little girl. 8 week photo: http://www.germanshepherds.com/forum/attachment.php attachmentid=10636&stc=1&d=1313347894 Now at 12 weeks: http://www.germanshepherds.com/forum...1&d=1313348220 http://www.germanshepherds.com/forum...1&d=1313348220 http://www.germanshepherds.com/forum...1&d=1313348220 http://www.germanshepherds.com/forum...1&d=1313348220 Thank you in advance for any help and constructive comments! Please know I realize she is not like a speciality or even AKC Champion type of dog..... |

cute pup, and I am no expert but I don't think the pics are going to help anyone give a great critique. Only the first is an actual stack and all are on an angle. Where did you get her from?? Was it a kennel that shows their dogs and did they sell you a show quality pup? I would worry more about lots of socializing, take her to some handling classes, teach her to enjoy being 'gone over' for examinations and to move nicely on leash. When she is old enough to show have the people running the handling classes or her breeder help you to enter a local show, and try it. Puppies are given lots of leaway, as long as she is well behaved, can be silly and jump a bit to play, the judge and others will help, and then better pics will help give you a better idea of what you have. Love her lots, she is pretty

Ok, thanks Trudy for your feedback! I appreciate it!!
Yeah, I didn't want to stack her in the other pictures so people could get a better idea of exactly what I was talking about with her croup!!! She starts handling class this week (was supposed to start last week but we couldn't make it). :-) |

Maybe it is just a puppy stage or maybe she has a short, steep croup? I don't know! LOL I guess the breed handling instructor will be able to give me an idea as she has shown GSD to UKC and AKC Championships before even though that is not her main breed...... I was just hoping other GSD owners on the forum might have seen similar conformation and would be able to comment.

Her croup is short, but better photos would help us evaluate her better.

Ok. Thank you again, guys, for the feedback! I was thinking short, steep croup as well but what the heck do I know!! Glad to get some confirmation on her croup issue.....
Agile..SO nice to hear that it won't hold her back too much from being able to be shown as she has a lot of other really good points about her. Selzer, thanks for the collar comment!! hahahaha
