Default Looking for puppy in Michigan

Hello,

I am starting our search for a puppy, we are looking to get one this summer or maybe next spring.

I own my house (2acres) my neighbors have a lab and terroir (plus 4 young kids) We have chickens (mostly stay in their coop, 2 cats, and three kids (3, 5, and 12).

Looking for mostly a family pet, plus protection. We will want to do basic and some advance training, maybe some tracking (search and rescue) too.

Would like Black and Tan, or black and red but not a big deal as long as the dog is right.

We hunt and fish so don't want a gun shy dog. Low prey drive, we have deer turkey, sand hill crane walking through the yard all the time, don't want to have to chase, and mostly a in house family member.

We are just out side Lansing, mi but willing to travel a bit.

Looking to spend 1500 or less. (Could go a little more but....)

Thanks for your suggestions.

I am addressing the bolded part of your post first. SAR is not something to dabble in, it is a commitment of your lifestyle to do that. If you visit your local SAR group, they can fill you in on that.
Prey drive is a given in this breed, not many GSD's are low prey, but you can train your dog not to chase. I don't want to recommend a breeder that breeds for low drive or anything that is out of the standard for this breed. Maybe contacting this rescue will be an option as they have evaluated the dogs they are placing and doing it successfully!

Alta-tollhaus is in Marshall. Though the price-point you have may not be inclusive to what they sell for. The showlines tend to run higher than the working lines....(which you say you are interested in~black and tan/red?)

this is a closed fb page, join it for more info on the Capital Area Schutzhund club(many people train there with a diverse group of dogs, as well as a few breeders in the mid MI area) https://www.facebook.com/groups/1859...93120/?fref=ts
These clubs may be worth checking out, even if you don't want to do IPO it would be good to visit, make contacts and see the dogs in training.

I can suggest a few other clubs, but these are all in a short drive of where you are. My signature has two links on my dogs names with good breeders(working lines) in the SE corner of the state....check those out too!

Security Question
While balancing on a piece of wood, two inches by four inches known as a 2x4, john and his friend sally both spotted a dalmatian inside a truck with sirens, headed to put out a fire. State what the 2x4 is made of.
