Would you buy a puppy from a breeder who wanted to meet you somewhere and not let you see where the puppy was raised?

No thanks. I have received dogs sight unseen without going to the breeder's home but in that case I knew the breeder personally (and a mutual friend made the drive to pick up all our puppies, sent me pics and video during the trip). I do not expect a breeder to allow me to drop by their own home or kennel business any time unannounced or make special arrangements for me to constantly visit, but a breeder that would "not let me see" the litter beforehand (even if the breeder was making the final pics)....no, I'd pass.

Thanks for the comments. The explanation I got for this was because the momma dog has bit before in protection of her puppies. But that begs the question. Cant the Momma dog be removed somehow from the situation????

Also begs the question of whether she's too sharp a dog? Is that the kind of dog you are looking for? Because not only are the puppies' genes half hers, but they are raised by the dam so influenced early on by her temperament and demeanor. I am not saying I like a GSD that allows any ol' stranger to come in and get in her face and manhandle her puppies, but it would give me pause and make me look really hard at the dam's genetics. What interests you about this particular pedigree?

The mom has bitten before in protection of the puppies so you're not even allowed on the property? Something is rotten in the state of Denmark.

I will say my female was not super tolerant of people around her puppies until they were around 5 weeks old. She wasn't aggressive, just anxious. To balance her out, I worked her hard before the visitors came and used essential oils both topically and in a diffuser.

When people came to see the puppies at 4 weeks, I introduced mom outside in the back yard (puppies inside), then put mom away and brought the visitors into the living room then brought the puppies to them.

Once the puppies got to 7-8 weeks mom had to be put away before people came, she didn't want anyone touching her puppies. Again, not aggressive, anxious and she would her her puppies away from the visitor and then go and try to distract them from the puppies LOL

Either way - I know moms can act differently around the litter than away from them.

BUT like someone else said, just put the mom away.

I would want to meet her away from the litter though and gauge her temperament etc, Dad TOO, if possible!. Then meet the litter separately.

If I can (meaning I am not having a puppy shipped) I want to see where/how they were raised. House training is hard enough without having a puppy raised in filth for the first 8 weeks of its life!
