Breeders Near GA & Price Question

Hello All,

I am just starting my search for a White German Shepherd. First of all can anyone recommend a breeder in the Southeast within driving distance to Atlanta.

Also I have seen prices range from 800 - 2000 if they have lineage, papers ect and the dog is on the cheaper side is there any reason to be worries? I dont want to over pay but I also do not want a dog that will have problems.

Thank you very much for any and all help.

Josh

I am new here also and coincidently am looking for a white shepherd in California. I can't recommend breeders in Georgia but I can tell you a little about prices around here. Prices range from $500 to $5,500 (pick of the litter Berger Blanc Suisse). However, white GSD's range from $500 to $3,000, with a majority of those coming from long established breeders falling between $1,500 to $2,500. Many of the breeders who seem to have been in business the longest offer proof of parents OFA certified hips, elbows evaluated and rated and DM checked. I asked on this site if that was the norm and should I be wary of breeders who don't offer such proof but never got an answer. I didn't think that was breeder bashing but who knows. My last white cost $1,000 and came from parents with OFA certified hips but developed hip problems and other health issues anyway and died before he was 10. So sometimes I guess its a crapshoot.

Good luck.

Puppies ARE a crapshoot. You can only plan and prepare and try to give them the best start possible. I certainly wouldn't pay for a white GSD puppy that WASN'T from health-tested parents (OFA, DM, elbows, etc.). I would also want to make sure that the breeder knew their dogs and had stable temperament and good nerve.

If you haven't done so already, be sure to look at the "What to Look for in a Responsible Breeder' Thread that is stickied at the top of the forum.

I don't have recommendations for specific breeders in your area, sorry. :)

Check on the White Shepherd websites. There should be a listing of the breeders there.

Are you willing to ship? There have been 3 on 'Craigslist' Los Angeles. rescues and young [8 months old] that owners need to find homes for. At least 3. $100.
