Pickup Checklist

Newbie here... What all should be on my checklist to get from the breeder, when I am picking up the puppy? AKC papers? Vaccination papers? Not sure...

I like to get a copy of the pedigree of the puppy, you should get a registration paper, unless the breeder is holding them back for one reason or another, medical records on the puppy, and I like copies of the medical records (OFA) of the parents if they have those. Contract if you signed one

Some give puppy packets with puppy information, maybe a small bag of the food they are feeding, tips on raising a puppy, but it's not something I "have" to have,,kind of a nice bonus..

I brought along a towel. I was going to wipe down the mother with it to get her scent so I could put in the crate at night with my pup. However, the breeder gave me a knotted old sock the pups played with and that worked well. Her first night she whimpered only a few moments and then fell asleep on the sock. So I would suggest something with the mom and pups scent on it.

In my experience, registration papers come later.

I'd like a pedigree, the health certificate, the contract of sale, vac. record will be with health cert. If you are picking up & driving pup home you may not need the health cert (it will cost you.) I'd like a bit of the food they were feeding so that I could transition to something else or have a bit until I could pick up my own.

Do you have a long drive in which you'll have to make potty stops for the pup? If so, you may want to bring some Chlorox (30:1 concentration) to soak the area before you potty the pup.

The bad news is, the bleach has to sit for 10 mins before you can be sure all traces of parvo are gone.

Just bring pee pads. Not worth the risk. Though I didn't know about parvo and walked my dog everywhere.
