Looking for a breeder - KY, IN, OH, TN

I want to get a female puppy soon so I'm looking for good breeders. I'm in Louisville, KY and I'm willing to travel to get her. Please recommend any good breeders that you may know!

Hi!

Regarding the question in blue you may get more responses/suggestions if you share what type of dog you are looking for and what type of activities you want to do with your dog and if you have a preference of showlines or workinglines?

For instance are you interested in doing any dog sports such as agility or obedience? Or are you looking more to get involved in bite sports like Schutzhund? Or are you wanting an active family companion, jogging partner something like that.

I just want another protection dog that I go on long walks/hikes with. My current dog is a working dog and has the right energy level for me, so I'd like another one like that.

I don't know this breeder and as far as I'm aware have never met any of their dogs.

Based purely on their website, my guess (emphasize that it's a guess!) is that you could do better and you could do worse. This breeder appears to be breeding imported females to an in-house stud and does not have a developed line of their own. Their stated goals are to produce large, richly pigmented, low drive dogs.

To the extent that their dogs are titled, it looks like mostly import titles; the main stud has an RN and CGC and UKC/Intl conformation championships, nothing else (on which note there\'s this whole big long thread: http://www.germanshepherds.com/forum...eedworthy.html discussing how much weight you should attach to those particular titles).

I did not go looking on OFFA to verify that the dogs are listed there, but it does look like the dogs have their basic health tests in place, so that's good.

In my opinion the puppies are priced not unreasonably for what they are -- $800 for puppies out of health-screened dogs that are a couple generations removed from any significant accomplishments. They might make nice pets, if that's what you're looking for. I would not consider one for work or performance.

Thank you for the input! I should have been more clear on what I'm looking for. My current GSD is from a working line and has very high drive so I'm looking for a dog similar to him. My intent is to use both dogs for protection and a family pet. I think I'll go and check out the dogs at Sportwaffen since they have a litter coming up.
