White Shepherd Q

Does a breeder being part of the AWSA mean anything special?

No, it just means they are a part of the American White Shepherd Association. There are good breeders and bad in that registry just like any organization.

There is a BYB near us that is a member of AWSA.

If I remember correctly, they are advocating for the white shepherd as a distinct breed and the dogs tend to be big and soft temperaments.

Nope, the same way that a breeder being a part of the AKC doesn't mean anything. It's a stamp of approval from the governing body, but the same way an AKC GSD breeder can breed bad hips, temperament, body shape, and any of the undesirable GSD traits, a member of the AWSA can breed the same bad things.

Kamieju is correct. The AWSA is for the American White Shepherd and they say in their history that they believe the AWS should be a separate and distinct breed from the standard GSD and that's what they are working towards.
