Default looking for older pup around 6mo Sf-Sac,CA

Does anyone know of any breeders with older pups? I am looking for a quality dog for a family pet so not looking for a dog with high working drive. I am in Napa, CA right between San Fransisco and Sacramento.

I don't know of a specific breeder in your area, but I do know that from looking at breeders' website, they usually have a section on older pups or adults, sometimes it just says to email them for availability. That is where I would start and I would want to know the parents' OFA hips/elbows ratings and the parentage had been cleared for DM. Also I would look on petfinder for a rescue dog - the dog may be older but you would know if the temperament is suitable to your family.

rescues are the best family pets your area has hundreds of gsds in rescues, or petfinder i bet you can get a hold of a pup easy.

I just worry it is not going to be low drive more lower energy. I don't want you to end up with a genetic mess. Thats what can happen when you look at pet finder or adds. You don't know what you get and you end up with a dog with all sorts of problems. Hopefully someone will have a mellow older pup in a rescue. Just those ones are taken so quick I bet. Just be very careful and picky. If you go with an older dog you are much safer. Remember they are pups till 3 pretty much lol

I'm in the bay area currently fostering a WONDERFUL, super mellow, easy going, sound temperament 6 months old puppy. He is one of those puppy that will be great for first time dog owners. Wants to be everyone's best friend. Listens well. Loves kids, plays well with other dogs, no fear of anything as far as I can tell. Super gentle but great nerves. A firm "no" is all it takes for an unwanted behavior. I think it is very possible to get a good family pet in the rescue and there are quite a few good GSD rescues in the bay area.

If you share with the rescue what you're looking for, they will look out for you even before the dog becomes available on the website.

I came here to post this! Edda is a sister, not littermate, to my Layla.

I also found a 6mo old at Covey-Tucker-hill but I have been reading some very mixed reviews with several very negative comments about temperament.

At 6 months the puppy is going to be old enough for prelim x-rays and to evaluate temperament. If you are looking for a pet you are not going to breed, then you should be able to take the individual puppy at face value if you take someone knowledgeable with you and insist on x-rays.

That was what I was thinking as to dog seemed great on first impression. I was going to go back with a trainer I know but some of the reviews were making me nervous.
