Hello,
I am a retired police officer with 28 years law enforcement experience. I have over 20 years experience training and handling Police k9's. Currently I am a publishing author for Police and Fire Publishing (www.hiredbypolice.com). This company is owned by two police officers, Pete Bollinger and Steve Winston. Please feel free to contact them through the web site to verify my association with them. Presently, I am writing a book on police canine training and deployment. I am looking for training subjects for the book. This would be an opportunity for a breeder to showcase one of their dogs in the book. This dog would be trained as a patrol/narcotics dog using techniques that I have developed. At the end of training the dog would be donated to a police department and the breeder of the dog would be able to showcase the dogs accomplishments in the field of law enforcement. The dog I am looking for should be male, between 6 months and 2 years old. He should be a good representative of the breed. Monocrid or neutered is OK. No hip issues. Must be social, approachable and confident. In return for supplying this dog I will feature you as the breeder/supplier of the dog in the book. You will have access to the dog's future accomplishments for promotional purposes. Please let me know if this project is of interest to you. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration. Sincerely, Raymond "Doug" Humphrey Publishing Author Police and Fire Publishing humphreydoug@ymail.com |

Instead of looking for a breeder to supply a pup for you, I suggest you try to find a rescue dog that way you can also feature the rescue organization or shelter. I would start with petfinder.

Mary Beth, Thanks for the suggestion. The problem with Rescues is they are looking for "Forever" Homes. I just need training subjects to demonstrate techniques in the book. The other issue is that over 20 + years of experience I have seen very few rescues that have made it to become police dogs. I have seen them but we have waded through alot that looked good in the beginning only to wash out. I have no doubt I can find dogs. I have most of my training subjects lined up. I just wanted to offer someone the opportunity for some publicity in return for using their photogenic dogs for a few weeks. In the end they would recieve them back with training and presumably greater value. Just an idea I was throwing out. If there are no takers that is fine. Thank you all for the consideration.

Doug, people can't really solicit for dogs on the forum, and breeders can't advertise their dogs here. If someone is interested, they should contact you in PM.
With your background in law enforcement and SchH, I would think that you would have lots of contacts and leads to pursue in getting a dog?
