Question Looking for a breeder in Michigan

My family is looking for a breeder in MI. We lost our last dog Harley in July, he was 9, we are looking for a new puppy. We purchased Harley from Whistledown Kennels in Algonac Mi, he had a great temperament but was not a healthy dog, allergy issues since he was 6 mths. I am nervous about going back to them. I was looking at the breeder I'm Gaylord, Browning Haus but I saw a post on your site not recommending them.

Any other breeders you can suggest, just looking for a family pet, I do not want to spend a fortune.

Do you know what lines you would be most interested in? Would you be willing to ship?

Wildhaus Kennels is in MI, I believe. Chris is a member here and produces some really nice working line pups. (Wildhaus Kennels, Working German Shepherd Breeder in Michigan)

I 2nd Wildhaus of course!
Though you may have to wait a bit, they don't breed often.
As far as 'not spending a fortune' not sure your price range, but good breeders do charge around $1000-2000+ depending on the lines. Please don't support a breeder that takes shortcuts and charges minimal.
Or wait, save more to be sure you are going with a well bred pup that is from a responsible breeder.

If you really don't want to spend the above, then what about going with a rescue? This one has had some really, really nice dogs adopted out, and there may be a match for you eventually. https://www.facebook.com/SouthwestMi...Rescue?fref=ts if you aren't on facebook, the rescue has a link here: https://richlandanimalrescue.org/

I've got a spreadsheet of about 70 kennels in MI but would only recommend a handful. It depends on your lifestyle, what type of dog you want, type of training it's for, etc.

Default Thanks for the info

I would love to see your top recommendations. We would like to visit the kennels and see the dogs before we decide.

When I said we do not want to spend a fortune, I meant over $1500. I have seen postings for $2000 and over. We just want a family dog that will be a part of the family, we do not want to breed or show.

Working lines are what I'd recommend then. Showline dogs tend to run a higher price, being $2000+ for the most part.
Working lines tend to be $1200-1600. If you go to a good breeder they will be able to match you with the perfect pup. As Jane said, Wildhaus may not have pups for a while. But if you're willing to ship then we can give you more options. I'm sure Lies can also give you some recommendations. (:

I don't know if they are in your budget. Also it depends what type of GSD you are looking for. There are also great breeders outside of Michigan (Indy, Chicagoland, etc).

Laramie German Shepherds

The sire of one of their litters is a brother to my male.
