Default German Breeding Standards

Hello everyone, I currently have a 2 year old GSD, Titan. He was bred in Germany and I bought him while I was stationed there. I only recently moved to the U.S. when my tour was up. Anywho, my sister came to visit me in Florida and fell IN LOVE with Titan. In discussing what breed her and her husband are going to get, she has decided on a GSD. The problem is that she wants one that was bred like Titan. From what I have heard and read, German standards are a little different, the dogs are bigger, broader and more muscular, hips higher off the ground, ears a little bigger.. Again, that's just with the little knowledge I have. I researched and have found a lot of breeders that are now breeding with GSD's hips low to the ground. They do not want that. I'm curious to know if there are any German Style breeders in the U.S.

I posted this on behalf of my sister, Jessica. She wasn't able to actually register, for some reason her computer isn't letting her so for now I will post for her and she will just read what you have to say

Any advice and information would be fantastic! Thanks guys!!

There are different lines of GSD;

Show lines;
West German
American

Working lines;
West German
Czech
DDR (although I am unclear to what extent pure East German lines exist anymore)

Where the pup hit the ground in regards to country, isn't as relevant as what line it comes from.

It would be helpful and interesting if you could post your dog's pedigree. From the avatar it looks to be WG Show lines??

Check out this link;

I am sure others will offer additional links.

The short answer to your question is YES, there are many breeders here in the US that breed to german standards.

If you post the name of his sire and dam there's a good chance we can find his lineage online.

A lot of us on this forum have German-bloodline dogs.

Why not contact the breeder of Titan and see what's available?

Sadly the breeder of Titan pretty much fell off the face of the Earth. When I lived in Germany I saw ads for GSD puppies for sale in our Military Paper, I checked him out and visited his home, as he was an in home breeder. A friend of mine was more familiar with breeding standards and all that than I at the time and came along. When I picked Titan up to finally take him home, the breeder told me he was moving out of country due to some marital problems but would still be in contact.. BIG FAT LIE. I was never able to get ahold of him again. Sad story but since now I know better I look more into the breeder when I am looking another puppy. Like I did when I purchased my Boerboel. She is a GREAT breeder and very involved with her litters even after they leave her.
