Hope in Pandora's Box

You know how hope was put in Pandora's box to combat all that evil in it? Is that an elementary way of looking at things? Because hope really is the worst of all evils, isn't it? It makes you hang on to things that may never come in your possession; to chose life because it 'may' get better...

Do you think hope belonged in Pandora's Box because it is the worst of all evils or because it combats those evils?

I may be a little bleak, but I've always seen hope as too passive to be a good thing. All the definitions I find define it as "to want something to be true" or "to cherish a desire with anticipation". If I want something, I don't want to waste energy "hoping" for that thing. Instead I want to focus my energy on everything I can do to make it a reality. Hope for me conjures an image of a person in a bad situation sitting back and relying on "hope" to change their situation instead of figuring out what they can do to change it for themselves.

Like I said, I'm probably pessimistic.

I've also had bad experiences with people shoving "hope" down my throat in bad times of my life. "If you just have some hope, you will see that you can have a brighter future!" I'd rather figure out what I need to do to achieve that or accept that it is something that I cannot or will not attain, thank you very much. So I guess I see hope as an evil that belongs in the box.

Hope is a comfort to a fool's heart. I prefer to look at things clearly and work out solutions. Not being pessimistic, just realistic.

There are two different kinds of hope. One is just lame and a waste of time and energy, one you almost can't live without. One you are aware of, the other is subconscious.

going back to the myth of Pandora's box, true "hope" was inside to fight all the evil that came out.but u forgot to say that Pandora had to do the effort and work to open the box again so for the hope to come out and fight the evils within.

in conclusion: sit back on ur ass and hopping isnt gonna make it :P
hope for what u want but do the effort and work to make it happen.
