Default Horse people

Thought I'd share a pic with you, this is from my
last Saturday trail ride. We went to a place about
3,500 ft. elevation and after about 2 hours, stopped
for lunch. Leland took full advantage of the chance for
a rest:

There were lots of tourists from all over (Russia, China,
South Africa!) and many wanted to pet him and ask
questions. A couple of them said they'd never been
up close to a real horse before, it was neat to see them
get such a kick out of it!

All of the horses I trained (mostly Arabs) were show horses, but we rode trails with all of them, and they loved it. Years ago I read about a woman who rode her Arabian stallion in competitive endurance rides, not an uncommon thing. One year she did something much different--she rode all the way from Washington State up to Alaska, I forget how long it took her. When I heard about it, I decided I wanted to do the same, but life had other ideas for me. If I had been able to do it, I of course would have had my GSD along as well!

A place called Sly Park, the upper end of the lake there.
It's off of Highway 50, above the town of Pollock Pines,
if that gives you an idea.

So proud of my boy, the other two horses were a hand or
two taller (Leland's just 14.2!) and much bigger body types,
one a Halflinger and one a Half Draft, and Leland was carrying
MUCH more weight, yet he kept up, we made no concessions
really for his size. He willingly went at or over anything I
put him to, be it hills or clompy bridges or creeks and streams.
Only sweated up under his saddle (in a nice, even pattern thank
goodness and quite a bit of saddle fitting and adjustments!) a
little bit, not his neck or flanks, even though temps were in the
mid-80's that day.

Love, love, LOVE mah boy!
