Camera Images too large

I don't know if anything can be done, but I feel the need to ask.

My camera takes very large images, for example: One photo is 4288 x 3216, 3.68 MB. I have taken plenty of nice photos that I'd love to upload, but they are just so large! Cropping does practically nothing. Is it possible to do something about this? Make the images smaller somehow? Or did I just get lucked-out with this camera?

When you load them onto your computer with whatever program you use, (I use HP photosmart),,you can resize them individually. I usually resize to 640 x 480.

I think you can resize them as well, if you put them on photobucket..

Thank you! I will try this.

I use MS paint to resize. I usually resize to 800x600 and they upload fine.

I like using the full capability of the camera but my cell phone does have several resolution settings when you take them so you may want to check. The phone has 13mp and i cant even text some of the images due to size

I use Photobucket to host my pictures and there's a setting to link them out at a particular size without having to resize them all individually. It used to be that you could upload them at a particular size, and then they'd link out at that size, but they've "upgraded" (heavy sarcasm) their site, and it doesn't work exactly the same as it used to.

Keep in mind that if you resize your original photos the hi-res version will no longer be available, so you might want to just make a smaller copy to post on the board and keep the large version stored on your computer.

I do what Debbie does, except I use Flickr. Every photo I upload automatically becomes available in about 10 different sizes (including a square 70x70 which is nice for new avatars).

You can also use Google Picassa (free) to do batch resizing on the computer. You can select groups of photos and then have it generate them in a new size. It actually exports the files, so your originals are not saved over.

Another option is direct upload with pgfree....it will resize the image for you.
