Default briard, anyone own one????

I have always admired this breed, does anyone own one???? They are in the herding group and sure are pretty. I cant say that they are real popular here in N.J.

I've recently been around two Briards at herding trials. A herding trainer I know has trained both of them, one belongs to her daughter and they say she's a handful. The trainer says that the ones she has seen lately don't have good temperaments. She's in the Houston area so it may be localized. They're big, beautiful and cool looking dogs but apparently need a lot of work- you know, like a gsd!

GSDBriard doesn't post much on this board, but she has two GSDs named Pandora and Watson, and an absolutely gorgeous Briard named Kafka

Trained a few before. Not particularly impressed, but the one that wasn't a nervy mess wasn't bad. Grooming wise they are a nightmare. Supposedly there are some great ones out there but I have yet to see them.

I've groomed a couple of Briards over the years, and they had terrible temperaments. Had no qualms about biting. I put Briards on my "do not groom" list a long time ago.

They are pretty popular in the area. Lots at the dog park that compete in the show ring and in lure coursing. They seem like great, middle-ground dogs, with a good temperament/solid nerves and decent personalities. I don't think I'd hate owning one.

I agree that grooming would be a nightmare. :O

I'm around one often~every Tuesday. I was around another before he he had to be put down at a young age due to epilepsy. Not a fan of the beard or the coat...and because the ones I knew(know) have the natural coat, not cut, the eyes are hidden. Both males, both have bite history....which I place blame on that hair in their eyes which restricts their vision. Both are from Dior kennels.
Windows in the house are a mess because that beard is always wet. I love Henry's paws though!

Here he is retrieving the newspaper....though it was the neighbors, so I had to return it.

This Henry has a bite history? One of the dogs I know is named Henry! I didn't think he would have had a bite history, though...

Not too fond of them. When I had my previous GSD mix, an irresponsible owner of two Briards let them attack my dog when we were in an off leash area when my dog was still a puppy and left her with a bloody lip and nose. They ganged up on her so I don't trust the breed to do that to a puppy.

I think Henry must be on dogfaeries do not groom list-I think they are cool have only seen one at a show-and it had personality-did not come high in trial-but made me laugh because it wasn't my dog-close though-and a friend has one
