Keep getting the urge

I keep getting the urge to take the plunge and move out of state for school.

I'm a homebody, and have stayed at home for college thus far, commuting.

But as vet school approaches (two years or less) I've been looking into the schools I am applying to, and since the closest is two hours away (UW-Madison) I will be moving for school.

But, I am transferring this semester from the local two year college...and the more I think about it, the more I want to just take the plunge SOONER and move. I am soooo sick of Illinois. I have always had a strong desire to live in the mountains/forests, and just really feel like i'm ready to grow up.

Granted, I'm scared ****less. But, the time will come sooner than later.

Some of the schools i've been looking into:
Washington State University
Colorado State University
University of Wisconsin
University of Florida
University of Illinois (preferably not, but I am going to apply anyways because vet school is so hard to get into)
University of Minnesota

The first three are the most real possibilities.

Just venting. Stressed to the max about school and life. So many huge changes are going to be occurring in the next few years.

And yes, Berlin is coming with me.

Good for you! It's hard to take that first plunge! I really hope you make it out here to CSU! You would love Ft. Collins (not far from Boulder) The weather is great, the mountains are beautiful and it's pretty stable economy wise. I think the only thing you would miss is having water. I do miss having a large body of water here, but not the humidity, lol!

My bosses wife went to vet school at Washington State and while they liked it, it was far from the coast and not as much to do in the area.

There is a lot to do in the area especially for dogs if you want to do something with Berlin and Denver is not that far away if you are itching for some urban happenings. The only thing they don't have is....Da Bears! :D

Keep getting the urge

I went to school at university of Idaho, which is 9 miles from WSU. I got the shock when I got off the plane in Pullman. Where are the trees? Where are the mountains? Having said that, they were like only an hour away. I loved living on the Palouse. Cheap cost of living, snow during winter, but not buckets full. They are one of the best vet schools in the country. However, I did not have a dog while there.

UF is a great vet school, as I'm sure you know! I've lived in Gainesville for 7 years and have just gone back to school (law school) at UF. Gainesville is a really great college town. It's Florida, but not the beach, palm tree, tropical Florida that is South Florida. There are tons of nature parks and walking trails. There's a small town feel, but because of UF, there's access to things you get in big cities (arts, culture, sports, etc). The beach is just over an hour away.

I moved to Miami from PA right after high school, for college, and then moved to Gainesville after I graduated. That was about 12 years ago and I've never regretted it or wanted to move back!

Good luck!

UF is great! I love Gainesville. My grandparents used to live in Naples, and every year we'd drive down to visit and we'd ALWAYS stop for breakfast in Gainesville (at the Bob Evans to be exact) lol! It is a nice town. Miami is great, but theres a lot going on there. When I was still on my pre med path, I was planning to go to UMiami (AWESOME school though..) But Miami is so crazy! (Fun, but crazy haha)

Yeah it sucks that where Washington State is, there isnt much trees and mountains, but atleast its all close. Washington State is I believe in the top ten for best vet schools in the country, I think Colorado State is number 2! I'd love to go to either of them.

Tory, I'd be ecstatic if I moved to Colorado and went to CSU. It is the number 2 vet school in the country, i'd die if I got in. I also know a few people from highschool who moved to Fort Collins! I know me and Berlin would love it there, plus, we'd get to see you and Bear! Colorado is my favorite state in the US, you are right, its soooooo beautiful, and so much to do! CSU Boulder sent me an info thing a while back, and there is a poster of their campus, and its nestled in the mountains, oh goodness, its breathtaking! But yep - i'd def miss DA BEARS, idk how well i'd do with Peyton Manning and the Broncos. Hahahah :wild:

Keep getting the urge

I was going to do the same thing; actually, to be honest from Aug 2010 'til March 2012, I took classes online from an out of state school. If I was you, I would stick to an instate school. I'm just saying this from recent events. Because I had to pay out of state fees, I'm in debt for around $40,000. I'm only just finished my AS degree requirements and have to take the FTCE GKE exam to go on to the bachelor's portion of my degree. Now the states are making it harder to get aid. I'm trying to go back to my old school; so that I can save money and I've ended up having to jump through hurdles just to get money for my classes. So what I'm saying is to make sure you are sure you want to go out of state because it is hard and expensive.
