Default I must be getting senile...

I was packing up for work this morning and some days like Sunday are not always too busy. Especially when it rains.

I grab the phone and unplug the USB charging cord from the laptop and pack up the laptop, stick the phone, my knife, and my wallet in my pockets...and lose the USB charging cord.

I get to work and unpack the laptop and I'm looking for the cord in my bag to tether the laptop to through my phone connection. It's nowhere to be found.

I thought now I left it at home and set up a hotspot instead on the phone.

I get home, Lisl and I go for a walk, then she eats and we go back out to potty and I'm setting up my laptop looking forward to a glass of Gewurtstrameiner.

I have turned this two-story house upside down looking for this cord. I have to conclude it is not in the house. I've even gone so far as to check the refrigerator and freezer thinking I had it in my hand when I was getting ready to make lunch and sat it down in the box. No.

I check the bathroom. Not there either. The bedroom, the utility room, even the garage, not there. I know Lisl didn't take it. She wouldn't do that, and I'd have seen her do it.

There is a black hole somewhere in my house. I just don't know where the event horizon starts...

Or I'm just getting forgetful and senile.

If I were a USB cord where would I be?

When I put up my Christmas decorations I got a new runner for our dining room table. I put up all my decorations and then a week later, finally found a runner I liked so I remember rolling up the old one and putting it somewhere by itself. Since it took me a while to find a new one I liked, the old one wasn't put away with all my other normal decorations I swapped out for the holidays and when I put everything back after New Year's....no runner....but I can SEE it in my mind. It's now March and I have not found it yet! Maybe my runner is with your cord...

And they're both with my watch! The one I took off and set down somewhere in the house when I got home from work the week before last, that still hasn't turned up. Fortunately it was a cheap plastic Casio, so I finally gave up and bought another one. But it's around here somewhere....

See I'll do this except instead of a few hours or more between the last time I saw it and the time I look for it I literally will set something down (most commonly my tablet pen) look away for two seconds, and when I go to pick it back up it has mysteriously disappeared. XD

I hate when that happens! I do this with my work badge far more often than I would like to admit. Unfortunately, I can't get into the entrance near the parking lot I use without it, so I have to go to the front of the building. Inevitably, this only happens on rainy days where I have also misplaced my umbrella.

Your cord must be with my television remote and the instruction manual for my new foot massager. The remote has been MIA for over a month and the instruction manual disappeared before I even got the foot massager plugged in.

I have come to the conclusion that my house is haunted by a thieving imp!
