Ok, so I generally won't let the kids watch the cartoon-movies, I just can't stomach most of them, so I have been worn thin on the movies they have, so I decided to get The Friendly Persuasion and let them watch that. But Mom says they're too young, and my sister's a bit iffy, so I took the package of 4 Lassie movies over there instead.
Now I bought these about a year ago and left them at Mom's. I had let them watch the first one years ago, and while they watched it they did not seem to enthusiastic, so I let it rest. But they're six now. What kid doesn't love the old Lassie movies? Last week we watched Lassie Come Home, and they pretty much liked it. Ok, they hated the part where the little white dog dies, and they weren't too crazy about the part where Lassie gets shot at, nearly drowned, and hurts herself when the dog catchers were after her. But they were all happy when she got back home. Yay. Maybe I made a convert. So yesterday I flipped the move disk over and showed them Son of Lassie. Uhg! I think Laddie got blown up 3 times, nearly drowned at least once, shot at, injured, caught by the Germans, attacked by a German Shepherd, and plane-wrecked. It's usually the younger girl that doesn't like violence. This time the older girl was begging me to shut it off. I wanted her to see the end where the boy and the dog come home safely so I left it on. But uhg! Because they were good all week, I let them choose a second movie and told them I would let them watch cartoons if they must. I left them watching in bliss some fisher-price princess cartoon commercial while I washed the dishes.

I am really wondering if I should make them suffer through the other two movies or not now.
