checking in real fast, lots to do since power came back on at 2:30 am..Went out on Fri Nite.
We got around 4 feet of snow here, 1/2 ice, which made for tough snowblowing, hubby managed to get our driveway done in 2 days. Bought a brand new generator, that blew up after using it for 10 minutes, that was interesting! Chickens camped out in the basement, entertained by the cats, another interesting adventure.. Off to do some clean up, will be back later, hope everyone else is ok!

I hear ya, Diane! We only got 17 inches on the upper cape, but we got blasted with ice/wind... 94 MPH winds clocked here. It was definitely scary! Shingles peeled off the roof, some downed limbs in the yard, and the wind combined with ice actually warped and bent our patio door. Hubby got the driveway plowed pretty quickly, between his one-ton Dodge and the loader on his tractor. He was the neighborhood hero
They never plowed our street until last night, so people were trying to plow with small trucks, which the trucks couldn't handle because of the ice... out of the whiteout comes hubby in his tractor, LOL... he dug people on the cul-de-sac out where the banks built up at the ends of their driveways, and if they needed it he plowed. He spent most of yesterday plowing one lane for most of the street. We got power back last night, which was a miracle... 10 minutes prior I had called the power company and they told me Thursday. A lot of people are still without power (close to 100% of my part of the cape was out) but the power company has been great. My office is still closed/powerless, which is good... I needed today to take care of the house and such. I'm worried about my parents (who are the next town over from you, Diane)... my brother had two trucks break, so he couldn't get out to plow them out... my dad can't shovel that much snow (bad heart). It's freezing rain down there now, which is making it all worse. If DH gets home from work soon, I'm probably going to drive his truck down there and plow them out... a 1/2 ton pickup won't be able to do it. Up in NW CT 3' of snow was the norm... I think a lot of people in SE CT got caught off guard... private, commercial, and municipal plowers alike.... you can't just wait until all the snow has fallen to plow, like you usually can... you gotta be out constantly, plowing each driveway every 3-4 hours. So people tried to plow at the end, and either got stuck or broke their trucks, which were usually too small to handle it. It's really sad

right now, it's just raining and really foggy here, but it's packing the snow, so it's going to be HEAVY..
Alot of the state has bad accidents as it's freezing rain,,if you come down, WAIT awhile..You will have trouble getting here I'm sure. The main roads are driveable but not that great.. 94MPH winds !! HOLEY COW! I am so glad we didn't get that high of winds, the trees were my major concern (after storm sandy) ,,but none came down in my yard thank goodness. Tell your parents, to call their towns Emergency Management ,, I got a "blurp" from my town, saying if you weren't plowed out, to CALL THEM, they will come plow you out.. I guess the biggest thing that TICKS ME OFF, is they 'knew' this was a big storm, they are never prepared here when it comes to losing power.. You call CL&P they tell you a time, that time comes and goes, first they told me 4pm, then it was 5pm, then it was 6:15, then 9:15 then 2:30 am.. I know they have issues to work on, but don't tell people the power is coming on when it's not ((Hope your parents do ok.. (They are predicting another BIG DUMP this Sun into Mon ((

Yeah! Normally they make a big deal out of storms, but this one they really didn't... it was "oh, hey, winter storm on Friday just a head's up".... it wasn't until Friday morning that they made it serious. I think citizens and municipalities/utility companies were caught off guard I think.

We got about 3ft here in Tolland but never lost our power, glad to hear you finally got yours back on. I heard on the news this morning that we might get another big storm this coming weekend. I thought for sure we were going to skate by this year with another easy winter, I guess not.
