I am incredibly disgusted by this..
I work down a leased road for an oil field water treatment plant and the residents let their dogs roam free (none live on big farms just normal yards) and they're running in and out of the road all day. There are large trucks that come in and out of the road all the time (anywhere from 3-5 axles). This irritates me enough that these people let their dogs run free while this is going on but to top it off a dog was hit by a water truck and killed last week and the other owners continue to let their dogs roam.
This seems very negligent to me and it frustrates me. Especially when my co worker got a resident here saying "Well, my dogs were here before those trucks were". Maybe I'm out of line for being upset, but I can't help it. I don't believe any dog should be allowed to roam free unsupervised when you live right next to several roads that are frequented by traffic. Sorry..had to let that out. |
People will never learn, sadly. To some people, dogs are just disposable property and they really don't care what happens.

We're right in the middle of Marcellus shale territory. We've had very heavy truck traffic. I can't even walk the roads when they were drilling. So anyone that lets their dog run is a moron.

It just makes me sad for those poor dogs. When I first started out here there were only two. Now there seem to be 6-7 dogs. Its like they're forming some kind of pack. They're all dirty, smell bad and look neglected. But they have collars on. Who ever the owners are, should be ashamed.
And I agree about the moron statement. |
where i grew up this was common, but that was then and this is now. i don't understand how people can expose their pets to modern day hazards. this why i am such a fan of dog parks.

We live in the country and the town we live by is very "country" like. And everyone lets their dogs run loose ALL the time. On the way to town earlier saw a few fluffy dogs near our place and on the way home a black lab with a collar running loose. A few days ago, a GSD pup was on one of the main roads and had a collar and all. We stopped and it ran back to it's house, limping the entire way (like pano or an elbow).
These people all over here are morons, and dogs are always getting smashed on the road. Mutts and purebreds alike. It gets very old :( |
This reminds me of a story my mother told me. She grew up in Iowa, 1930's-1940's. With all the recent talk of gun control, she told me her father frequently carried a pistol. Near her house was a road with trucks almost exactly described by GusGus. Her father used the pistol to put the run over dogs on this road out of their misery. My mother said she could never understand how people would do this to their dogs and felt as if she was living in a primitive society or something.

Now, I'd freak if one of my dogs were loose. |
i can understand your feelings. your neighbor that says "their dogs were there first" well, that's dumb. being there first doesn't protect their
dogs. |
