doxycycline is the worst medicine ever

The tick that was embedded in me, was a deer tick - but they are still waiting on lab results to see if it was carrying Lyme. So, I've been on Doxy for a week+ now and have 3 more to go.

Cramps, stomach aches, everything else - just generally feeling terrible!

Try some slippery elm about 30-45 minutes before taking it. It's a really rough medicine. :(

And make sure you're taking probiotics too!

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll pick some up.

The other day I took it 20 minutes before I ate and felt like I was going to die!

Isn't it supposed to be taken with food?

When I went to Africa I was supposed to take Doxy every day for about 2 months as a malaria prophylactic. After reading the possible side effects (mainly feeling ill, vomiting, and yeast infections) I went to my own doctor and paid more to get a newer drug called Malarone. I had *no* side effects with that drug, except I got REALLY sick while in Africa (lost 12 lbs in about 2 weeks) and ended up having to take a heavy round of Cipro antibiotic instead. Some of the people on Doxy got really sun burned. Granted, we were all white/Dutch people on the equator in the middle of January (our winter, their summer).

ETA: Yes definitely take it with food! Our chaperones were adamant about this. The one time it make someone puke-sick was because he didn't take it with a meal.

Ouch!

I did that a while back with keflex, I'd never realized how sick it can make you if you don't take it with food!
