Every job has its perks.
3% off isn't "generous", and it's not a perk if he's working 2 nights per week "on call" (which means he is tied to the apartment 2 nights a week), that's entirely different than a discount for just being there or parking his car there.
Then the 3% is actually reimbursement for a job done.

They can have 3-50%, so yes it is quite generous. Anything else you wish to argue about?

How sad that I ask for help so I don't have to cancel my 5 month school trip to Spain and you argue over every little detail you can.

What joy is there in life when you spend every moment trying to hurt or put down people you have never met?

Ok, people. Back on topic or this thread will be closed.

This thread is about renting with a GSD. Not occupations, discounts, etc.

There are several websites that list apartments that allow pets. I Googled 'renting with dog' and found many - like this one:

Pet Friendly Apartment Rentals and Hotel Directory accepting Dogs, Cats and Other Pets

no it's not. Bribery is when you offer someone money (or goods/services) for special treatment. The complex isn't getting special treatment from the police office just because he lives there.

Many departments actually keep a list of places that offer discounts to police officers. McDonald's gives free coffee to police officers. Do they expect that the cops will then ignore a call at Burger King to answer a call at McDonald's? Of course not.

And I don't know any apartment complex that expects a special consideration or not getting a ticket. The perk that they receive is that other potential tenets will see that a police officer lives there and think "This will be a nice safe place to live" and any potential tenets that might be of "questionable" behavior will decide to live someplace that won't have a police officer as a neighbor.

Houston Pet Friendly Apartment Rentals

You should look into town homes, condos and house rentals as well. Maybe check craigslist for a sublease...

Good post Dainerra.

Does the pup have CGC or any special training like SAR or Schutzhund? I found that, when I did some apartment hunting, some places were willing to allow Finn because we were associated with a SAR group and we were willing to do a temperment test and get his CGC. It's just something to think about.

Discounts to officers is definitely not unusual, so I'm not sure what the fuss is about? Some departemtns have rules about stuff like that, some do not. Restaurants and convienience stores gives discounts to on duty officers all the time.

But anyhoo, I AM failing to understand what on earth being an officers has to do with getting a dog into an apartment that doesn't allow them. The headaches for a complex allowing special treatment to an officer when other tenants see someone with a banned dog far outweigh the benefits IMO. Plus, many are following the rules in place by their insurance agency.

I'd be wary of trying to push your dog on a complex that doesn't allow GSD's right off the bad considering that you actually HAVE had fear aggression issues with your dog! You are most definitely asking for trouble for you, the dog, and your boyfriend.

Gsdelsa if you want the answer to your question regarding what his occupation has to do with the dog please read page 2. There are apartments tht have breed restrictions but will allow exceptions with a meet and greet. If the apartment is eager to have an office live there and they do allow exceptions, this is one reason they would conduct the meet and greet. I don't care if anyone else thinks it is ethical... It is not illegal and in my eyes it is better than rehoming my dog or skipping Spain and having nowhere for rocky and I to live when I return. (You have not made any personal attacks, I am just putting that out there for the group that was complaining earlier)

My stepfather is a lawyer and will look over the contract to guarantee it is tight and rocky will be able to stay.

I am happy that you recall Rockys fear situation, but that only has To do with people inside my apartment. He could pass ANY meet and greet whether it be with cats, small and big dogs, children or adults. All of the neighbors adore him. I have reference letters from them too.
