I asked a few weeks ago about "Why coconut oil" after reading all the posts about dosages and never got an answer. I bought some and give it to my GSD but I still don't know why it's good or better than fish oil.

Traveler's Mom - First, I never saw that post. If you have a question, sometimes you have to bump it up because you may have posted when the board was slow and then it gets lost.
Coconut oil is not better than fish oil. It's different. Coconut oil has many properties that are great. More reports are out all the time on new uses for coconut oil. Fish oil is for Omega 3's, which coconut oil does not have. We need this to balance our diets high in O6's which is mostly due to higher grain intake and our meat animals being fed corn rather than grass.

There are a lot of great people here, and even more knowledge. It's a great place for learning, sharing, and understanding our breed..... when you get answers. ![]() Don't take it personal, it happens to the majority of us. Sometimes it's best to send a PM instead of making a thread. Those are usually answered pretty quick and you don't have any bickering between members. Works great for important questions. Btw, welcome to the forum!

![]() Yeah, I've seen the billion "How much to feed my pup" questions. I was more curious as to whether or not Purizon compared very well to Orijen in terms of quality. But I can't expect much from that thread, because I honestly think I'm the only one in the is entire forum who has ever used Purizon. Ah the joys of being on an Island....lol As for the aggression one...that one is a work in progress actually. Fortunately for me, my reactive female IS fixed, and getting a much more temperament stable dog in the house has been really really good for her. So far, I've lucked out in that regard, but it's early days still. Watch this space! Last edited by Rua; 01-14-2013 at 02:21 PM. |

I've always done olive and flaxseed myself. Might give the coconut a go! |

Olive oil is higher in O6 and flaxseed is unstable so it's shelf life is very short. Coconut oil is good for everyone! It helps with cholesterol, anti bacterial, anti fungal...lots of stuff.

I don't know. I just know that it has a short shelf life for O3's. If you do a google search, you can find lots of info on it. I only feed it to my horse in the form of Horseshine which has Vit. E added to help stabilize it.
