I've taken a real interest in pigs in the last year. One of my neighbors has a house pig, a little potbelly girl and she is awesome.
I just want to know the pros and cons from someone who actually has one in their home with their dogs. I'm considering an adult over a baby, as adorable as they are.

I think they are adorable and from what I hear, easy to train to go outside and they do well with other animals.. I wouldn't mind one myself. I'm interested in what people have to say.

We had one when I was living at home. He was almost like one of the dogs and was easy to train. I was always teaching him new things and even taught him how to put clothes in the laundry basket. Believe it or not they are pretty clean and don't have smell to them like people think.
They definitely need to learn boundaries like dogs do and can become really pushy if you allow them to be.If you are worried about rooting, you may want to have a designated outdoor area for them to save your landscaping. Ours lived to be 16 years old. |

Well I found a little guy on craigslist free to a good home, he's eight months old, neutered, house trained, leash trained UTD on shots. Friendly, sweet, gets along with other pets..
I would plan on getting him a secure kennel for outside time so he can root around for hours, because I DO like my landscape! lol So I'd give him a corner of the yard just to destroy, like a digging box, where I could hide some treats in the dirt to satisfy that want to dig. Nancy - Baha I said that! While talking my RM into a pig - "If he ever gets out of hand.. there's always bacon.." I would have so much fun naming a pig.

I'm going to put a lot of thought into it first. I only go on vacation for about a week out of the year, and I take the two dogs with me, I rarely travel any other time though.
I don't know as much as I need to about pigs - such as how they take to traveling and staying in new places. I can't imagine it would be much worse than a dog. Believe me, if I bring home a piggie, there will be endless pictures.

I've only known one person who had pet pot belly pigs, they weren't tiny for sure ... when one got sick it was difficult getting them in their truck ... they had to borrow a car to take them to the vet. I only knew one of the pigs well and as she got older she got pretty nasty (but don't know how much was due to how she was raised). Personally after being around their pigs I've never thought about getting one again.
