Does anyone know why the following combination makes my tongue feel like it has a thousand paper cuts?
Pistachio pudding, light cool whip, marshmellows, pineapple w/juice, madarine oranges, and pecans. I can eat a little of it and have no problem. But if I have some more, later on or the next day, I get the problem after each serving. It goes away though. It is just really weird and rather uncomfortable. Could I be allergic to pistachios?

Maybe or it could even be the pineapple, if it is raw and chunky. I suppose to find out, you could try eating one of the ingredients, say the pistachio nuts one day and see what happens or remove one of the ingredients - like the nuts and see if you can tolerate it.

Did you try breaking down the ingredients one at a time? You could be allergic to pecans or pistachios. Does the Pistachio pudding actually have pistachios in it? Or just flavor?

I only put pecans in it. The pistachio pudding comes in a Jello-box. I have eaten pecans. I love butter pecan ice-cream and never had an issue, but maybe I am eating more of them in this. The last time I made it, I used walnuts and had the same problem.
I never have a problem with walnuts in cookies. Cool whip we use. I have eaten pineapple and mandarine oranges without issues. But I really hate marshmellows, so I can't be sure if that is the problem. I can be the pecans or walnuts because I really rarely have either of them. And, well, it could also be something in the pistachio pudding. Too bad because I really like the combination. Errrgh!!!

INGREDIENTS: SUGAR, MODIFIED FOOD STARCH, ALMONDS, CONTAINS LESS THAN 2% OF PISTACHIO NUTS, ARTIFICIAL FLAVOR, SALT, DISODIUM PHOSPHATE AND TETRASODIUM PYROPHOSPHATE (FOR THICKENING), MONO- AND DIGLYCERIDES (PREVENT FOAMING), YELLOW 5, BLUE 1, YELLOW 6, ARTIFICIAL COLOR, BHA, TBHQ, AND CITRIC ACID (PRESERVATIVES).
That's a few nuts...almonds, pistachios, pecans. If you are going to test an allergy...especially a nut allergy...make sure someone is with you. My nephew and my husband are allergic to nuts.

It's the pineapple. I can't have any pineapple or my tongue and the roof of my mouth break out in bumps and those paper cut things.

Uhg! I love pineapple, but I really don't have it often. So it is certainly possible that it is the pineapple.

I went from the tongue reaction to now throat closing when I eat walnuts or pecans. Hazlenuts have a slight reaction, so I avoid those too.
When I was a kid, I thought everyone got weird bumps and an itchy throat from eating walnuts. I didn't like it so I tried to avoid them. Each successive exposure makes the reaction worse. So far, I have not had to use an EpiPen. Tree nuts are a very common allergy. If you feel bad after eating them (mouth reaction, hives, throat tightness, etc.) AVOID them at all costs.
