You could give them a nice Poinsettia plant. They look beautiful during the holiday, then no matter what you do, they die (at least mine always do!). That way you won't be bothered with it for the rest of they year!

Is sausage in a box out of the question? Maybe check out groupon... there is a lot of random gift-items food and non-food related there, although I know you wanted to shop local.. :/
What about car washes? I know lots of folks need to keep their cars clean for their appearance! Or maybe gift certificates to spas for product or the like for the women? Haha, my boyfriend's parents are a spanish teacher in high school and elementary school principal. I was asking him about items I could get them and the first thing he said was "No food!"

I ended up getting a case of wine from a vineyard/winery that is a couple miles from my home(how's that for buy local?!) A bottle of the Kresta white should be ok, hopefully!
I'll give the people who I know aren't wine drinkers some Lindor truffles and an ornament. This vineyard is so cool, they are real dog friendly~the name comes from one of their dogs Kody, they now have a cattle dog & a golden pup that greet the customers, hopefully everyone appreciates that! There is also a great field behind the vineyard that I'm trying to get permission to track on...though the vineyard owners are in the middle of purchasing it, so the current owner would have to give me permission. I was told though, I could go on the other areas of their property to 'walk' my dog. Here is a pic of that gorgeous field I took this fall, sitting out on the patio during a wine tasting...
