Based on my limited knowledge and recent research based on the issues of the "pitbull" that came up in another thread I have come to the conclusion that the APBT and what we currently call the "pitbull" are not one and the same. What we now generally refer to as the "pitbull" is just a dog that has a tight short coat, and a heavily muscled body. The "pitbulls" that you see flooding shelters, commonly chained up in backyards in areas of poverty, and the "pitbull bull" puppies being sold for $75.00 bucks in the paper is not the APBT.

Unfortunately for the APBT's these "melting pot" dogs of bully "types" have been assigned the name "pitbull" which actually *is* the shortened name for the APBT.
So in other words- this -----> APBT

and this -----> pitbull are not the same. Someone correct me if my observations are wrong.

Correct. They are "pit bull type" dogs.
And again, all "labeled" pit bull due to the way we lump those dogs with that appearance together.

I find it much more distasteful to try to "hide" what breed a dog is, calling them "boxer mixes", and the like, when some shelters and some rescues try to adopt them out.
It's unethical and can lead to those dogs being confiscated if they go to new homes in BSL areas.

I have a Texas Blue Lacy (Picture is not my dog - but an adult Lacy). People call him a Pit Bull dog. They have no Terrior in them at all. But...he is blue. Go figure.

That particular photo looks like a "pit bull type" dog. Other photos I saw of them didn't look like that at all...?

True. Just like any other breed, it depends on the blood lines. I don't see the comparison. But so many people are quick to squeal "Pit Bull!" thats all they are blinded to (color). To me, they look more like a Weimaraner (but smaller and shorter ears). But I'm not a breed expert.

I get a little miffed when folks assume because my boy works in the field that he is a hog fighter (like some of the bully dogs are used for). Therefore, he must be a bully breed.
