Any star gazers out there?
My hubby is a HUGE fan of the stars and I'd like to get him a nice telescope for Christmas. (He's hard to shop for anyway) We usually don't exchange gifts but, I'd like to do this for him. Problem is, I don't know anything at all about TELESCOPES... the more I read online reviews, the more confused I am. ![]() Anyone on here have any advice or experience as to which one/ what kind to buy? Thanks, Kat

my sister is an astronomer with over 25 published scientific papers on
research data. Send me a PM and I will give you her email address . Now the advice that she may give on a telescope may be too egg head , too advanced for your needs but she can recommend good telescopes , that is a certainty. |

There's no supplier near here so, online is my best option. As for type...that's what I wanted opinions on.
Surely, someone on here has had one, knows of someone who does this as a hobby, or has experience? thanks. Kat

how about a really really good set of binoculars , did baby sister recommend this in her reply to you?
Find out if there is a local skywatch / astronomer club in your area -- I don't know what your location is . You could ask my sister about the 2013 Starfest event which she helps organize -- watch this , the beginning makes you feel like you are an astronaut in training , Best Telescopes – Top 10 Telescopes for Stargazing | Space.com in the meantime http://www.space.com/skywatching/ (look at their amazing gift shop - nerdy T-Shirts , science toys etc !!!! ) or with the naked eye look to Orion's belt for the big red supergiant (dying star) Betelgeuse Last edited by carmspack; 11-21-2012 at 12:31 AM. |

I'd have to say the best telescope to buy would be the Hubble Telescope but you better have deep pockets! The cost of the hubble Telescope was 1.5 billion at launch.
