These are just $6.95 each, and have a very simple, classic look:

I don't have china or stemware but I second this. After we got married my MIL kept giving us more sets of our flatware for like two years. Also we broke some of our glasses and I was able to go to the store and get individual replacements. My mom liked the ones I picked out so I eventually got the same set for her. I got married in 2006 and they still have those glasses and my pitcher on the web site ("Impressions").

You can't go wrong with Riedel.

Lies, we have the Impressions glasses too!

Sunflowers, Riedel stemware is great, but it can be very pricey! Their lower end Ouverture line isn't too bad though, here's a 12 piece set at Williams Sonoma on sale for around $80: Riedel Ouverture Gift Set | Williams-Sonoma

I get most of my stuff from Pottery Barn, but have also received glasses from Schott Zwiesel,as gifts. Very pretty ,but I wouldn't pay what they want for them personally.

Yeah, I do not want something to break the bank, just something nice, simple, and elegant.

I do like Williams and Sonoma. I have a gift card

Not sure if you have these stores down there, but Bowring I could pretty much live in that store. I even take a 2 year old in there, though I don't think I exhale until I am outside LOL.
We have the orchestra line for our every day, my good stemware is a mix of different styles with some hand-blown, some very, very large red wine glasses and some hand-etched champagne glasses. I don't do simple, my mother swears they switched babies at the hospital and gave her a Gypsy child, somewhere her real daughter is out there trying to do simple white linens in a world of bright, loud colours

LOL I re-gifted mine! It wasn't on our wedding registry since my DH cannot drink b/c of his epilepsy meds and our idea of a fun evening is more like pizza and beer for those who can drink. My "kitchen" is not even a real room, just an alcove at the back of the house so we do not have space to store fancy stuff we have no use for. We do a white elephant exchange every Christmas at work and last year I grabbed the unopened set of stemware. Once we got to the round where you unwrap the gifts it was instantly stolen/traded out of the game!
