Default oven recommendations

I'm in the market for a new free standing oven, we have an all electric home so no gas.

My fridge & dishwasher are stainless Kitchen Aid, oven has to be stainless but I can live with another name brand.

I really like the look of the smooth top ovens but would like to know if anyone has one what are your likes & dislikes? A co-worker has a smooth top & said she hates it because it's easy to damage & scratch BUT she's always coming to work with new dings & scratches on her car

If Bosch makes one, I'd go Bosch... As things fail in my house I replace with Bosch. Everything I have from them is flawless

Was renting a place about a year ago and they had the kenmore smooth top I believe and one day we came down stairs and the entire smooth top was cracked like someone hit it. The repair man said he sees it a lot from the constant heating and cooling causes it the crack.

Bosch is a nice brand. We hope to break ground on a new build in 2 yrs and that is a brand that might end up throughout.

Yikes-cracked top...this is the kind of thing that scares me about them, I just really like the look.

My dad has always worked in manufacturing management. He worked for Bosch at one point. He said, by a wide margin, they are the best plant he's ever seen. Hospital clean environment, amazing quality control. He worked at their anti-lock brakes plant. If they found a flaw in a production line unit test, the entire lot was scrapped.. didn't matter if it was a cosmetic flaw on the unit or a functional one

I had a Maytag, smooth top, double oven that I absolutely LOVED!!

I agree that the smooth tops can be a bit of a PIA to clean (NEVER let milk burn onto them), but if you are good with cleaning spills off, they are much easier to clean than a traditional burner tpye.

I didn't like that the top stayed HOT for a L O N G time after it was off. You have to make everyone aware of that. It also took a while to get up to full temp.

I LOVED the double oven feature on the Maytag. The smaller oven was on the top, and I used it 99% of the time. It even doubled as a toaster oven!

My next stove will be a dual fuel (gas top, electric oven).

Has anyone used an Induction stove? I think only Electrolux makes them and they are seriously pricey.

I would LOVE to have an induction stove!! They are super pricey though.
I have a flat top. I like it. I find it much easier to clean than the burner type stove. We have Frigidaire - can't speak to quality as it was what came with the house we built and we've only had it for 4 months - but so far so good.
If I had my way (and the money) I would have Electrolux in my kitchen!

We have a Whirlpool smooth top double oven in our new home. I love some things about it, but then there's other things that I don't like very much.

The clean up is great, so much easier than a gas oven, and like someone else said here if you are good about wiping is down often, it really isn't a problem.

The double oven is awesome! I love the fact that I can warm up something in the top (smaller) oven at the same time that I am baking something in the lower one.

I don't like how hot it stays after you are done cooking on the stove, as Scarlettsmom also mentioned.

Overall though, I would buy another one over a gas range any day. I cook and bake so much that the easy cleanup is a huge selling feature for me!

I have the Maytag double oven with the smooth top. I HATE it! I have had nothing but trouble with it. The cooktop is great, no problems there, but the oven door seals are weak and cheaply put together. The heat leaks out and scorches my cabinets and the handles on the oven. The temperature isn't correct because of it. We have replaced the seals a few times and it still ends up leaking after a couple of weeks. I am planning on getting a new one. My DD just got a GE profile with the double oven last summer. It's awesome. I will go with that or the Bosch. I do love the smooth cook top.
