Default Job re-direction...

It's safe to say that I have to jump-start my life and pretty much start all over again, school wise, job wise etc.

So what do I do?

I thought about Vet Tech, EMT and later on Paramedic (since it goes hand in hand with SAR), Languages (English, German, Dutch, maybe even Spanish) but there are so many out there who already speak those languages, but what about German Teacher?
Or, what I used to do and hate with all my guts "Administrative Assistant", maybe patient admin, or anything in that kind of direction.

Or I'll just do what my dad suggested. Breed WG Showline dogs and retire LOL (he was joking, it's a joke)...

Can anyone say anything about the jobs I listed?

Do something you love and you will never *work* another day in your life.~I don't know where that quote came from, but in my life, it has proven very true.

Make a list of jobs you would like...reseach them and see what it would take to pursue them for real.

Sometimes jobs lie in the most unexpected places. Hobbies are frequently turned into actual income producing jobs. I am a prime example of that.

Well, I know EMT's get pretty low pay being only a two year degree (if that?) Paramedic is a little better but requires more schooling. Not sure about the vet tech, schooling/pay wise.

If you were going to teach, who would you teach/what kind of setting?

Vet techs in San Marcos make about 10-12 an hour. If you work at an emergency vet clinic you get paid a lot better because you work crazy hours.

Many schools are requiring a Masters degree for teaching so I would look at what schooling would be needed for actual teaching.

What about a German Tutor? Many teachers are teaching a language that is not their native tongue. I can see a real benefit to being a tutor. Make you own hours, within reason and not have to report to a school board or work within the school system.

If you looked in to it, you could probably even tutor online with a web cam and skype set up. You could call the school and ask what kind of security clearances you need to tutor. If you can get hooked up with a school doing that it could open up leads for you.

Another option is to work at the school as an aide. That would also give you leads for tutoring. Schools do tend to be a bit clicky on hiring, just an FYI.

I do not have the stomach for EMT/Paramedic. I applaud anyone who does. My worst nightmare would be to respond to a wreck with a dead child. It's not something I could handle. If you have the stomach and nerve for that, then go for it!

I do not know what kind of credentials you would have to have, but have you considered tutoring the German language? You could just about set your own hours and how much time you wanted to spend doing it.

if you need to get some cert or training here - the medical field is usually a good bet - x-ray tech, anesthesia tech, blood draw tech, ultrasound tech.....vet techs are a step above kennel help (and often double as same!) pay and respect wise....not a good field if you need to make a real living, and heartbreaking as well .....

bookkeeping/accounting is hard to get a decent living out of wihtout a 4 year degree/CPA.....nursing ??? many here who can discuss what levels afford good living....

I agree you should select a field you'd enjoy. If you're in an area with a lot of students, I like the language tutor suggestion (guess you'd have to check to see if tutors need any special licensing or skills in your area).

Just a thought...NYS has tougher requirements for most jobs, but especially in education and medical. What would suffice to be a teacher in PA or other states would never cut it in NYS. So make sure you when you are researching that you are looking for what is specifically required in NYS.

Same here. Do what you enjoy and the rest will come. How about being a dog trainer?? (at least part time?)
