There were a few posts in another thread about polite things people do in person (Mrs K mentioned a few). I thought it'd be a fun idea to make a thread about little polite things you do/try to do on a day to day basis.
My polite things:
What are some of yours?

I try not to point out what is wrong with everything. (I am not always good at that, but I try.)
Unless it is really, really important to me, if just about everyone sees something the other way, I usually try to let it go. It doesn't mean I agree, I just figure I am not going to change anyone's mind today.

Polite things I do?
hhmmmmmmmm Can't come up with anything. I do like to share books I have enjoyed. Has anyone read any of the Chet and Bernie books by Spencer Quinn? Fun books. The dog, Chet, is the narrator. His owner, Bernie, is a Private Investigator and together they solve crimes (what else would they do?) First one in the series is Dog On It |

I try to always smile, say please and thank you to anyone i run into in the service industry from people at LV to waiters at my local sushi bar. I find it's always nice to be nice and it might just make someone else's day.
I try to help whenever possible, hold open doors, give up seats on crowded trains/buses even without the priority seats sign. Allow the blind to grab me by the elbow (cause tht's the proper way to guide them) even when i'm really really touch phobic. i talk to strangers on the trains/buses, whenever they seem to need someone to talk to about a bad day or family issues or just people with a crying child. Talk to them, talk to the kid, distract the kid with my shiny phone and photos of Munich my pupster :P

Chet definitely has to be A GSD Mix. To be polite I try to strike up conversation w/ people and I try to smile and greet people at work. I work in Juvenile Court so parents and kids almost fall out of their chair when I ask them how they're doing or laugh and joke. When I was younger I was much more polite. When I worked in a prison I used manners and politness as a boundary and as way to guage the atmosphere. So Im polite to meet my own needs. |

I hold doors a lot, even though I'm usually the one with my hands full. If people look lost I explain where to go or just bring them there. I always say please and thanks (like if I'm ordering my sub at Subway I always say "please" with each part of the sub). If I see a poor person with a sign at the Target entrance (popular place for people to beg) I get some cash back at the register and give it to them. I always stop and let pedestrians cross because they always have the right of way anyway.

I was taught Please and Thank You and use both.
Excuse me or Pardon Me, if I'm trying to get through or whatever. I always extend the door if someone is coming in behind me.

I take my shoes off anytime I enter someones home, even if I'm not asked.
I still say "sir" & "mam" When visiting my parents I ask before taking something from the fridge, even tho I know I'm welcome to anything. I respect people's time & arrive "on time" or will call if I'm running late. I pick my battles wisely & know when something is above my pay grade and let it go... |

I try to say please/thank you, excuse me, etc... I don't always remember though plus I'm really shy... If I'm at a store or something and the checker says "have a nice day/evening/whatever" I always say "you, too!"
I try to help people if they need directions or something, if I know how to get wherever they're asking about. I don't always say hi to people or talk to strangers because I'm too shy, unless they talk to me first. Quote:
