My hubby has been out of the military for a long time now.
He works all over the USA....but mostly Kentucky, WV, Virginia, NY, Ohio, and TN. It's not uncommon for him to be gone for weeks at a time. It's been that way for 16 years. If he's home for more than a week.....I'm ready for him to travel again. He messes up our routine. I won't lie...I do miss him like crazy when he's gone. There's a HUGE pipeline boom that is fixing/already hitting in Ohio. Over in Carrollton. So "hopefully" he will be closer to home in the future. |

My husband has been in the Army for a long time...now works under another federal xx agency. He can be gone for weeks at a time, most are planned trips, sometimes we wake up together with plans for dinner that night but he got the call and is gone...most of the time location is on a need-to-know basis...family members are not privileged..safety comes first..OPSEC is never forgotten. To me this is normal and our kids are well adjusted, we have missed several holidays..x-mas, b-days, but our family unit is strong. I really miss him when he's gone and we appreciate that time together even more. You made me giggle when you said he messes up the routine when he's home and your ready for another trip...I have felt the same way and we joke about it. I run our home like a well oiled machine, work a full time job and keep the kids squared away! I am very proud of him and his continued service to our country. |

My husband was in the army when we met 10 years ago, and I was an undergraduate... we met at a mountain bike festival while he was on leave, and we've been inseparable ever since. We've been through two deployments together, as well as him being stationed far away for a couple of years as I finished school. I think it made our relationship-- the "honeymoon" phase lasted for years. When we finally were able to move in together, it was interesting! I travel a lot for work, but I'm home more often than not. Now that he's in a rehab facility, everything is very strange... I figured it'd be a piece of cake, considering what we've come through, but knowing that he's close by and I can't see him makes it a lot harder, actually.

Too true. It's the little moments like these that pick you up until the next call. I also second the idea of finding something you enjoy doing. That includes even if it isn't with your friends. The busier you keep your mind, the faster the time goes by.
